A BIG BANG IS COMING!

THE SPEAR WARS BIG BANG! OPEN

2015 SPEARFISHING TOURNAMENT

July 24-25 Hunt Days + July 26 Weigh-in

IS ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS NOW

Two Days of Hunting (not just one!)
Hunt Friday July 24 + Saturday July 25 Weigh-in Sunday July 26

Amazing Prizes and Trophies!
Our prize wall is the best in the tournament universe

Super Aggregate Points Scoring!
Weigh up to 9 fish worth up to 20 points each (180 points maximum).

Here's some history. The Spear Wars Blue Storm Tournament Series started in 2008 with three events - the classic Spearboard Open (SBO), the Palm Beach Open (PBO) and the Key Largo Open (KLO). The Spearboard Open (”SBO”) was for many years one of the largest aggregate spearfishing tournaments in the world. The classic SBO rules were applied to the three Blue Storm tournaments around the state of Florida. For several years, the Riviera Beach Marina was our BBO location which is the excellent former Palm Beach Open venue

This year we are again combining the prize treasure chests of the traditional three tournament Blue Storm series into one massive event. But, as last year for 2015 we have a new excellent venue due to the marina being renovated. Due to the venue change, there will be no Captain’s Meeting for this year’s tournament. Hardly anyone showed up anyway at past BBO Captain's meetings which is fine for our format design.

The Tournament shooting will be held for two days starting Friday, July 24, 2015 and ending Saturday, July 25, 2015.

The Weigh-in, Meal and Awards Ceremony will be on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the Moose Lodge at 3600 RCA Blvd. Palm Beach Gardens, Florida 33410 Phone (561) 626-4417. This place is located very near the PGA Blvd. Exit of I-95 which is just two exits north of the old venue exit.

We rolled back the start and end times for the weigh-in by half an hour. The fish weigh-in new hours will be from 10:00AM to 12:00PM Noon Sunday, July 26, 2015.

Here are just three images from last year's BBO in the new venue which was another tremendous success!

For 2015, We have kept the reduced registration price at $85 which includes the fabulous buffet food and drinks at the Awards Ceremony right after the Weigh-in.

In prior BBOs the cost of the T-shirts in all the sizes and colors required was killing us. So again this year instead of T-Shirts, we will include one Spearboard Sun Shade Cap plus a new bumper sticker. Supplies are limited.

Here is the 2015 Tournament Flyer:

Print out all the attached PDF forms below to send in your registration by fax to 561-455-9999 or by snail mail as indicated on the forms.

If you are new to this game, here is a video explaining the overall format of this "Aggregate Style" tournament which has trophies for the biggest fish in each category.

The venue shown in the video is different and is now the air conditioned Moose Lodge, but everything else like that huge prize wall and the excellent food is basically the same.

Tony not trying to start a big debate but wondering why still no lion fish category. After talking with the researchers at Mote this weekend the impact a single day event has on them shows it's well worth our efforts.

The equipment to handle them makes them very easy to harvest with little risk of a sting. It sure is nice to be doing something for the fishery that only the dive community can do. Not to mention it makes a lot of people aware of the problem and shows that people should not be afraid to harvest them.

Just a thought and we will see you I less than 2 weeks.

Hi Nailman,

I have thought about this idea in the past and decided the benefit in the context of the BBO format and how prizes are won may not be worth the potential risk.

One of the BBO sponsors named Aqua-Hunter recently had an unusual but scary encounter with a lionfish he described here:

http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=182625

Believe me, I encourage people to take them on their own, but to be careful. The tournament is alot of fun whether lionfish are in the mix or not.

Thanks for bringing it up, Tony

Re: 2015 BIG BANG! OPEN Tournament Registration is Now Open

Aww ya wussies. Jason Tiller got stuck in the hand with one of those turds while unloading fish at the tourney down here and the show still went on.

Maybe consider doing a total weight on them for x amount of points...

Suggest using a 10icnh PVC pipe with a slit down the side to slip over spear but to push lion against the back of the flopper to keep them steady for cutting.

I bet you could find some company willing to donate 100 shears for lion cutting that could be given out at the sing up...they really aren't that expensive. Hell, even Kytony & Co could come up with the funds to make something like that happen.

Re: 2015 BIG BANG! OPEN Tournament Registration is Now Open

The address of the weigh-in is as follows :

Moose Lodge - Palm Beach Gardens
3600 Rca Blvd.
Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410

Phone (561) 626-4417

Get off the Turnpike or I95 at PGA Blvd. and drive East.

Look for these yellow signs just east of I95 and along the way. But, realize the signs might be removed by property owners or authorities. So, please use mapping software on your smart phone or car GPS.

Good luck hunting! Tony

Lionfish=liability. We didn't want to encourage people who normally don't mess with them. That's a bad recipe. That's our reasoning for not having a lion category.
