Re: Taking a trip to the keys
Get a Top Spot map for the Keys (available at bait stores) there will be plenty of spots on there to check out. No one is going to give their favorite spots over the net.

Re: Taking a trip to the keys
You will have to go South of Long Key to spear from shore. It is 3 miles from shore north of that point. 6 miles off shore from key largo. Get the top spots chart at any K mart in the Keys, maybe WalMart, or any fishing store. That is the best thing to do.

Re: Taking a trip to the keys
If you have a smart phone get the app Fish Rules for .99. It uses the phones gps to tell you what the fishing regs are at your current location. The rules down here are very confusing. This app will make it simple. (I have no commercial interest in this app.)

Dont know if youve considered this or not. But Into the Blue Charters is great. Aj Hally is a beast and puts people on some serious fish. Just something to consider if you havent already good luck man hope your trip goes good and dive safe!

Re: Taking a trip to the keys
I'll be down there march 23-30 too and was wondering if anybody could help me decide what to do . We are staying in a house on Lower Metacumbe . I was wondering were to go to get on some shallow reef's . Like Should we be going 3 miles offshore or should we be going further south and staying closer were the 3 miles rules isnt in effect . Not asking for cooridinates or anything just like a ball park area of where we could be shooting fish in 30' give or take. Any help from you guys is greatly appreciated

Re: Taking a trip to the keys
In lower matecumbe you need to be 3 miles out. After long key is when you can be close to shore. Off lower matecumbe there is a reef called Tennessee reef you can't spearfish inside it because its protected but if you fish te area aroud it in like 25-30 ft you should be able to find some decent fish. Good luck and dive safe.
