Lionfish RoundUp - May 10th - Clearwater

On Saturday May 10th, Reef Monitoring is hosting a Lionfish RoundUp out of the Clearwater Harbor Marina in downtown Clearwater.

The purpose of this event is removal and research. We will be studying the specimens brought in for our research, including otolith removal and stomach content analysis.

We are inviting all divers that wish to participate to come out and remove as many as possible from the Gulf of Mexico! There is no North/South boundary but we are requiring Gulf of Mexico only so no East coasters!

There will be no morning check-in, be back at the docks by 4:00pm. Cash prizes!
Registration is $20 and includes t-shirt, shears for removing spines, and meal at the weigh-in.

Rules and Registration form are attached or see http://www.reefmonitoring.org/lionfish-roundup.html for more details.

Don't hesitate to contact info@reefmonitoring.org with any questions!

Re: Lionfish RoundUp - May 10th - Clearwater

HammerHead Spearguns has jumped on board as a sponsor for the Lionfish RoundUp! HammerHead has a long history of supporting the spearfishing community and they are continuing their support of Florida's lionfish problem! HammerHead makes a LionBuster polespear that I have and love. It's the perfect size for getting up close and personal with the lionfish and their 5-pronged tip is far superior than other 3-pronged tips for holding the lionfish while you cut off the spines!
HammerHead sent us a package of goodies that we will be randomly putting in the participant bags! Make sure you register and see what awesome HammerHead product could be in YOUR bag!
Thank you very much HammerHead for your support!

Reef Monitoring is proud to welcome back Gulfport Dive Center as a sponsor! Anette and Dennis have been great supporters of our Reef CleanUps in the past! You may have seen their booth at the last one. Expect to see them again at the Lionfish RoundUp. Gulfport Dive Center is a full-service dive shop for all your equipment purchases and service, fills, and dive travel trips. I believe they just got back from a killer Keys trip diving the Spiegel Grove and the Eagle!
Gulfport Dive Center is now carrying the full line of AquaLung gear. Get in there and check it out!

Thanks Gulfport Dive Center!!!!

Re: Lionfish RoundUp - May 10th - Clearwater

Thanks goes out to Capt. Ryan Nelson and Tanks-A-Lot Dive Charters! Tanks-A-Lot has been a long-time sponsor of Reef Monitoring and we really appreciate the continued support. They've been running dive charters in the Gulf of Mexico out of Clearwater for over 15 years. They are the people to see!
But don't expect Capt. Ryan to take you out for the Lionfish RoundUp. He has registered personally and is competing himself!
AND in addition to all of that, he has graciously donated a gift certificate for a dive charter to Reef Monitoring! We will be giving that away as a prize at the weigh-in.

Thank you so much Capt. Ryan!

Ocean Care Solutions is back as a sponsor. OCS specializes in anti-sting first aid kits. I have used their products first hand and they're pretty good stuff. Definitely want to keep some on your boat for lionfish or jellyfish, fire coral or any other nasty sting!

Thanks Ocean Care Solutions!

Re: Lionfish RoundUp - May 10th - Clearwater

Reef Monitoring would especially like to thank David Yates and his entire staff at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. CMA is home to Winter the Dolphin and has been a strong supporter of Reef Monitoring from Day 1.
As some may know, our very own Dr. Heyward Mathews was the original founder of CMA back in the 1970s and literally built it from the ground up with his bare hands.

CMA has a strong presence today and may be growing and expand significantly in the near future. If you haven't been in there for awhile, get in there and take a look around. Make sure to check out the 'Dolphin Tale' exhibit in Downtown Clearwater as well!

THANKS CMA!

Re: Lionfish RoundUp - May 10th - Clearwater

Super Huge thanks goes out to Lance and his crew at Naked Turtle! They are back as a sponsor in a big way! The Naked Turtle team placed very well in the last Reef Clean-Up and I believe they might be the team to beat in the Lionfish Round-Up! Naked Turtle has a killer line of clothing items for all outdoor applications. I love my Naked Turtle hats!

In addition, Naked Turtle is releasing a shirt to raise awareness to the Lionfish issue in Florida. A portion of the proceeds from that shirt goes to Reef Monitoring for our research so buy two or ten of them!

Thanks Lance!!!!!!!

Re: Lionfish RoundUp - May 10th - Clearwater

Special thanks to Divers Alert Network for their continued support of Reef Monitoring. DAN has been a long time sponsor of our Reef Clean-Ups and is back on-board for the Lionfish RoundUp. DAN would normally have a display tent at the event but due to scheduling conflicts, will not be able to attend. They have sent a care package of goodies however so expect to see some good DAN stuff there!

DAN is the only game in town for your SCUBA insurance needs. If you aren't a DAN member, you should be. In addition to covering SCUBA specific accident expenses which your regular insurance may not, DAN also gives you direct access to doctors in the event you have a question or issue. They also will cover your gear should you need to ditch it in an emergency.

Check them out at http://www.diversalertnetwork.org

THANKS D.A.N.!!!!

Another great local sponsor of ours is Blue Water Life! Capt. Heidi and Capt. Mike specialize in SCUBA travel and underwater photograpy. Check out their photos, they are world-class!
They are also participating in the RoundUp themselves so maybe you can catch them slacking if they are taking pictures instead of spearing them!!!

Thanks guys!!!
