Re: My First Halibut. Thank you Malibu John!
Eventually, I have to get me a short mid-handle like that. So damn easy to load and point. Wow.

Re: My First Halibut. Thank you Malibu John!
Thanks guys. I never tried to look specifically for halibut before. Really wasn't sure where to even look. One dive with John and he schooled me on what I needed to know. Then I just followed his advice and well...just got real lucky. Now that I know what to look for, I'll make a point to hunt them, but it'll probably take a while to get my second. I'm sure gonna try though.

I'll pay attention to any tips you've got. I can't swim patterns over sand, patience isn't a virtue of mine that's why I spearfish instead of rod n' reel! I'm sure if I landed one it would change my thinking, but I'm into searching structure and getting waist deep in holes.

Congrats Smesh. Fresh halibut is great. If you like dynamite sushi rolls, you can mix up that sauce over halibut and roast it and its really incredible.
MJ - Dude, my wife and I saw your truck on PCH this morning. Were talking about how whoever was in it must have been pretty shaken up, super glad to hear you weren't. Hope the drunk's insurance company pays for a nice little upgrade. |
