SlipTip Spectra Holders
So Neptonics and a few other companies make sliptip cable holders that allow you to retain cable sliptips without tucking them into bands.
My new build is an inverted roller. There is simply nowhere convenient to tuck in the spectra from my slip tip and I'm struggling to find a good solution. My latest ideas was to try and find some sort of toothless alligator clip, attach it to the stock, and clamp it on to the tag end of the spectra after loading the gun. Maybe a marine stainless version of this? https://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-3902-2...h+spring+clamp Anyone have any ideas that have worked for them in the past? |

Re: SlipTip Spectra Holders
How about a thin tensioned clip similar to how a pen clips to the pocket of your shirt? I imagine a small stainless strip with one small screw would work

Re: SlipTip Spectra Holders
You can do shaft tension-er with rubber and tail grab, [Aaron Crist idea]
Sounds like you want a part you mount to gun body? 1st thought is to use a wood screw with bevel washers and some coated with rubber, or a rubber washer. have to play around with it. The adjustment of depth of wood screw I don't like. other examples http://www.linghunt.com/101Spearfish...html#TENSIONER

Re: SlipTip Spectra Holders
You should be able to tuck it in and out of your shooting line in it's muzzle groove? I like this style because whther the gun is loaded or not it's still fast what means you can jump in with an unloaded gun and have your tip on.

Re: SlipTip Spectra Holders
Magnet is a great idea, along with Behslayer's direction of anything on the gun already that can be used, vs adding more hardware.
After thinking a little more, add a compression spring, screw, 2 washers. Could be dialed in on a 2x4 from scrap pile. Post playing you could have some pretty nice. Rough sketch BTW. Small washer below the spring to not damage the wood I'm thinking now. If you make something post it, curious where you take it.

Re: SlipTip Spectra Holders
Small magnet inside spectra as GR mentioned works great. Just cover the magnet in a coat of epoxy as it rusts really quick. Another idea is you can TIG weld a very small dimple or tiny shark fin where the spectra line ends then you put a thin "O" ring or tiny rubber band (at the end of the line) and just have the ring go over the dimple so it keeps the spectra tight. You want the dimple or fin to be just enough to hold the spectra but not too tight that it won't allow the slip tip to engage.

Re: SlipTip Spectra Holders
Grizzlestomp , Post some pictures of the end of the gun. not heard from you and the rest of us are here to help.
I checked out Josh's part, looks pretty good to me. If that don't work my idea was junk, unless it's just a footprint issue. You got a crew to help, what exactly are we mounting too. What other keepers out there would not fit? https://neptonics.com/product/cable-keeper/ I kinda feel like Rick Monday out in right field, he made the play thou. and what a play he made. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrV8QPQAhxo

Re: SlipTip Spectra Holders
I'm guessing you will be running no forward line guide, so this might not work, but this is how I always rig.

Re: SlipTip Spectra Holders
Cheap thin bulk rubber bands work well. Loop 3 or 4 together and snag it on the shark fin closest to the muzzle. Slip tip stays tight all the time, even when not loaded. They pop when you shoot every time.

Re: SlipTip Spectra Holders
I am not exactly sure if we are talking the same problem. But I simply put a short length of 3/8 vinyl on the shaft after the end and before the screw on tip. Then I just pull it back, keeping tension on the spectra. Works fine

Re: SlipTip Spectra Holders
Re-read my post. I clearly should have done a better job explaining the problems I was facing.
First, I have almost zero shaft overhang (Pic 1). I hate shaft overhang, to me, it's just more mass, less velocity, and more shaft whip. As a result, I can't bind the sliptip spectra at the muzzle because it would leave 18 inches of spectra flying around. I can't have loose spectra flying around because of the roller pulley system on the bottom of the gun (Pic 2). I don't know what would happen if the spectra got tangled before firing, but with the forces involved in this build, I fear catastrophe. So I shaped a piece of dense rubber and epoxied it onto the stock. All I have to do is push the tail end of the spectra in the groove and it applies just the right amount of pressure. No loose ends, no tangles, and maintain my clear line of sight. Plus it pulls out pretty easy so no added resistance. |
