380... damn I forget how to count to 10 much after 250... I think I'd shoot my fins at 380 thinking they were aliens. What is down that far? ...Moby Dick? That's crazy.... Cool certainly, but crazy.

Re: Poll:How deep do you actually spearfish?

Btw...How much bottom time do you get and how much time spent on decomp after a dive that deep?

Responses show how spearboard has changed.

Years ago the board was mostly scuba divers. And alot of guys who liked deep diving. It has obviously become mostly freedivers.

Re: Poll:How deep do you actually spearfish?

Personally I never Freedive, tank only. But the question or curiosity about 380+ remains. I do a lot of dives to 180-200 and some to 250. As far as everyone I know that dives, which is admittedly a very limited amount of divers overall but does include multiple dive masters, telling them I spear at 250ft elicits a similar response as I had to 380.
I guess what I'm wondering is how being surprised at spearing at 380' or assuming that cannot be the norm relegates us/me to being free divers. I was fairly pleased with being able to dive 200+ which I really don't think is all that common in general - Obviously members of this board would have a higher statistic of deeper divers than a typical subject group.

And then perhaps the original comment was not directed towards me at all and this posting is irrelevant. Lol... Anyways it isn't meant to be "too" argumentative and my curiosity with diving that deep remains and I would love more info about the topic.

Re: Poll:How deep do you actually spearfish?

My doctors from Florida just moved here within the last year, and said I could dive it be just fine for my knee and the Coldwater. and he's in Florida right now fishing, said he was getting huge grouper at like 580 or 680 feet, I wasn't going to question him as I just thought that he was using rebreather or something. I remember a guy from Washington Zack Jones that died on a rebreather and it's illegal to spearfish on rebreather. as I asked what the visibility was down there, he replied that no they use electric reels and fish for them, and spearfishing way less depth.

So I wonder is Florida pretty bright down that deep or is it get dark that let's just say the 380 feet.

Um there is no option for me to give my answer lol please include the freediving and spearfishing WITHOUT TANKS in your poll. I spearfish over 40m freediving. Take the tanks off and do it how nature intended.

Re: Poll:How deep do you actually spearfish?

Nature intended you to not be on the internet so go back to smoke signals and drums.

Seriously though that would be air and 120-200'.But as this is the "tech forum"section of Spearboard it is generally understood to be tank diving in excess of 120',overhead or decompression diving.

I do freedive at times(and not 120') but don't advertise it as tank divers are highly opinionated about how others should dive.
