Cool Increasing the Enterprise Speed by 8 MPH! + More Enhancements

A few months ago, I had some work done on my boat and boy am I glad I did.

The following companies and people were engaged on the project:

Prop Tec - Propeller Commander Harald - (561) 741-7272 - http://www.proptec.us/

Mussel Busters - Anti-fouling coating Master Jack - (561) 848-1288 - http://www.matrixcoatings.net/

DNA Custom Marine - Bottom Repair and Paint Guru Alex - (561) 236-6107 - https://www.facebook.com/DNACustomMarineInc

Specialized Marine - Diesel Mechanic Extraordinaire Joe - (561) 339-0794 - https://www.facebook.com/SpecializedMarineServices

I highly recommend these companies and people.

Harald's masterful propeller work enabled me to gain 8 more MPH on the top end and 6 more MPH at cruising speed!

Harald also extended my rudder by 30%. I had suggested more and he recommended 30%. Of course, he was dead right since now the boat is much more steerable.

Here are some images that help tell this story of professionalism and expertise.

Tony

PS - Harald and Jack will be in a booth in the big tent for the next four days at the Palm Beach Boat Show. Stop by and say hello!

Smile Re: Increasing the Enterprise Speed by 8 MPH! + More Enhancements

Captain Harald has all the right tools for the job at his shop in Jupiter, Florida. But, figuring out the right pitch and cup for your engine and boat speed and fuel optimization is certainly an art at which he is very talented.

I was blown away by the enhanced performance of 8 more MPH or 37 MPH on the top end and a very strong cruising speed of 32 MPH. My fuel consumption is now wonderful.

Cool Re: Increasing the Enterprise Speed by 8 MPH! + More Enhancements

Alex over at DNA Custom Marine is a pleasure to work with.

There were blisters on my hull that he repaired thoroughly before the bottom paint job which I had not had done for a couple of years. The barnacle scraping service guys pushed me hard to get the paint job. A smooth bottom is certainly a factor in performance.

Thumbs up Re: Increasing the Enterprise Speed by 8 MPH! + More Enhancements

Finally, for some of the best diesel work in town, Joe Tenore at Specialized Marine Services in Jupiter, Florida is a champ.

Joe does my regular oil changes and any other mechanical work I need. On this job, he pulled and replaced the propeller and rudder. Joe also replaced the he seal which was leaking.

See his Facebook page here:

Re: Increasing the Enterprise Speed by 8 MPH! + More Enhancements

2400 is a pretty fast cruise, for good fuel mileage, how does it do at 1800? Or is it a turbo? What engine do you have? I just did all my running gear with the same slick epoxy paint that the Navy uses for their props. Hope I can see an improvement. I also see your gelcoat is not very thick, pretty normal for a blistered hull. You should use an epoxy barrier coat to prevent any blisters. Great improvements!

Yes Steve, it is a turbo Catarpillar 3126 with 425 horses. The turbo starts kicking in around 1800 rpm.

Man that prop looks nice. See your rudder zinc in the first pic. has pits and not a even burn, check your bonding or improper zinc install. And now both your shaft zinc and rudder zinc installed over a barrier same thing is going to happen. Just my two cents.

Your strut bar as well. Zinc is protecting your metal not your barrier coat. Install them on metal not paint.

I think the guys made the zincs contact the metal, but I'll double check. Thanks.

Here's what Alex says:

Thanks for the good words Tony. I saw the one post asking if the zincs are touching metal. They are. The metal was taped and prepped before putting the zincs on. Also you do have an epoxy barrier coat now.

Cool, good stuff.

Was the coating by Mussel Buster rubbery feeling? Please update in a few months how that coating is working. Really interested how it works on your derbies catch screen for your intake. Growth may actually take about 6 month being new coating to show any signs, not sure what grows in your waters.

Campbell, the water in West Palm can grow barnacles fast when the runoff waters are flowing. In the summer. I would also be interested on how Mussel Buster lasts.
