Decent Medium Stifness Fins wanted
I somehow snapped an Edge blade and blew out two insanely expensive Sportasub shoe/fin combos all within the span of 24 hours on a local dive trip...
Been out of touch on freediving developments/fin tests for the past several years as I don't get on forums anymore or hang out with the freediving community. Life got in the way of that. So I don't know what's up. Are fiberglass blades still more durable than carbon? What are some solid brands/models these days? Am size ten. Have old Omer pockets from the broken Edges I can use. So either complete in my size, or just blades that go on the standard Omer pockets will be good. Shipped to Oahu. Mahalo everybody. -Deaf Paul |

Hey Paul:
That was such a cool video you made - about diving around the bubblers. Our MAKO fiberglass fins are very nice. Comfortable footpockets and very tough blades. Check out the sale I am having on the MAKO fiberglass fins. http://spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=195463 Just $160... Thanks Dano

Impressed that you remember me, Dano!
I sure as hell remember you and all the times you and your company did me right, plus all the great deals I got. You've got a customer, will buy fins from you. Thanks for noticing my post and chiming in. -Paul |

Paul! Glad to see you back on here! Glad your motorcycle racing has left you still in one piece! I always really enjoyed your posts and respected your abilities as a freediver. Take care.

Re: Decent Medium Stifness Fins wanted
I would consider carbons. I had the fiberglass x brand fins and didn’t notice much difference from the rubber X brand long blade fins. I did notice a huge difference when I tried on my sons carbon blades. Triaxial from x brand and an even bigger difference when I tried on my friends quad axiel x brand fins. I moved so much faster in the water with a lot less fatigue.
Needless to say I had to upgrade. It was worth the lack of durability for me. |

Re: Decent Medium Stifness Fins wanted
Thanks for chiming in, Humpinit.
I did a bunch of pool testing for Hawaii SkinDiver Magazine several years ago where we tested about 10 different fins. All carbon or fiberglass, and for me, only one of the carbon fins did better than my fiberglass Edges. I did buy the carbon ones, lost them overboard, bought another set, lost those overboard as well, said screw it and went back to my fiberlgass Edges. I went ahead and ordered the blue fiberglass Mako fins in medium stiffness and standard 80cm size. Can't believe the crazy-low prices... Will try to stop back here to report how they compare. -Paul |
