A handicapped pelican

This poor bird landed on the dock after we launched this morning. I felt sorry for him.

The sad thing was that when he had an itch on the right side, he seemed to try to scratch it, but he was just waving the stub next to his body without touching it.

Maybe it was an omen. The vis was so bad that I never suited up. A guy who did said he couldn't see the end of his 110.

One thing I learned the hard way..when you grab one to untangle fishing line, wear gloves and grab fast!! seabirds and pennipeds have a hard time of it in the ocean..always glad to see years where the bait is plentiful and none are starving..

Re: A handicapped pelican

If you want to ward off the bad JUJU, then feed it some fish or squid. We saw an injured one at Cat 2 years ago and fed it several sardines and a mackeral and soon after we caught a YT!

Re: A handicapped pelican

I would have done that, but unfortunately I don't carry bait for diving trips.

Ron,

You should wear an eye patch and walk around with him on your shoulder. It would really be an attention-getter.

Re: A handicapped pelican

Careful Bill, it was probably a Democrat pelican looking for a handout and free healthcare.

They're all that way. That's why all the productive people and businesses are leaving the state.

Poor bird; they're tough b**tards though.

Thanks for the report, Bill. Hopefully it'll clear up soon.
