Re: Submarine Sinking

how big of a sub?
how deep will they sink it?
we have a sub off key west - but it is at 230ft deep- so
the fisherman get to use it- but only a handful of tech divers have seen it.
I wish they would put it in 120 to 130ft deep - that would be SICK!
AWESOME!

Re: Submarine Sinking

This is the submarine I believe....

http://www.cvanews.org/CVANEWSHistUSSClamgore.htm

In 75 feet of water says the palm beach post

At over 300 feet long, and pretty shallow, that will be a super cool wreck to free dive.

Re: Submarine Sinking

Back in 1979 I got to dive on the USS Bluegill off the coast of Maui. It laid in the sand at 135 fsw. Great dive. I have photos but they're not digital. Here's a link to the wreck. It was raised and sunk in deep water a few years later.

Cool Re: Submarine Sinking

Here are some of the details on the sub. I'm doing the bottom surveying for the County like I did for the recent Ana Cecilia Artificial Reef sinking.

The location I am video surveying the 90 foot bottom is Southeast of the Juno Beach Pier, North of Shark Canyon and West of Juno Ledge. Here are some recent drone shots.

Re: Submarine Sinking

Hey Tony , if you need an extra hand in doing some bottom survey work
I am available.
I did something similar in Darwin Harbour Australia years ago.I was involved with Surveying for some EOD guys for ordinance on a few wrecks there.
Very Cool stuff.

Sure Harald. Here's an article for review. I was there at the County Commission meeting when it was approved. Tony

Yes indeed. I had lunch with the contractor controlling this project yesterday. He sank major artificial reef wrecks in the Keys.

The project is moving forward well with a target sinking date in July 2017. He has the County's $1 million plus another group's $1 million lined up. The total budget is $4 million and he is working on the missing $2 million funding gap.

I am going to approach a billionaire friend of mine who scuba dives for some of this gap money. If anyone else knows of potential donors, please let me know.

Fingers crossed the sub goes under the waterline in July of this year. There will be tremendous fanfare I'm sure.

Tony
