9/3/20 on the Reel Rehab
Out to 90 fsw. with dkay, his wife and Adam. Seas were calm. Air was a bit cooler, viz was 30 ft. and the fish were coming over the rail.
Got a limit of gags and hogs, mangos as big as the gags, a handful of scamps and a couple fat lionfish. I got humped by a nurse shark, missed seeing the hammerhead on a dive with Dave and Alyssa. I also got bit by a triggerfish on the finger. It's only now that I feel the pain down on the bone. I've been lazy with making videos, but this trip is worth the effort, so check back. Thanks again, Dave and Alyssa... And Adam, it was great to finally get some dives in with you. |

Re: 9/3/20 on the Reel Rehab
Thanks Dave. Yeah, I wish I would have seen it. Haven't seen one while diving before. Only on the surface.
I caught my gag limit on the first dive, but not without some effort. First gag shook two shafts and was still fighting after the third. On my second shot the shaft didn't lock into the trigger mech. I spotted the second gag slip under the ledge and put a blind shot on him and both fish came up on the stringer. Adam retrieved my first spear between fish. It was sitting next to a turtle, which is why the first gag popped back out to the sand. Turtle had the undercut filled. So, a whole bunch of assists to get that first one on the stringer. A little something different for a video. Last edited by CuzzA; 09-04-2020 at 12:12 AM. |

Nice diving with you for sure. Sometimes those gags are pesky as hell.

Thanks for the report and the video! Did I see the gun slip off your hip when loading on that video?

Re: 9/3/20 on the Reel Rehab
Well, it did slip after the third pull of the band. But if you listen, after the first shot I put my second shaft in and you can hear the distinct click. I though the shaft locked into the trigger mech and of course I was also trying to keep my eye on the gag. After the third pull I looked down and the shaft was falling out. Fortunately the gag was rubbing the bottom on his way to the under cut. You can see the trail of dust on the shelf. That's where I slipped down and behind to put a good shot on him. Though I was distracted for a second then because if you look close a big hog came right in front of the gun. For a second I though, should I shoot the hog or look for the gag. I'm glad I didn't shoot the hog. Adam ended up shooting it as he was trailing me with my first shaft.
