Re: Inverted Roller Build

Nice outcome!

Can we see a close picture if the gun rigged up? That thing came out amazing!

Re: Inverted Roller Build

Gun all rigged up. I am going to switch out the 16mm "roller" band for an 18mm to add some power, but this configuration already has a lot of power. Used 16mm for all bands attaching to the bottom. All bands stretched 350-360%.

Also, really like the roller bearing truck. I think its made by Ermes. Love the idea of a single point for all the bands and line as opposed to separate sheaves, makes everything that much neater and tidier.

Now to find a pool and confirm whether this guy really has that much more power and accuracy than other guns as it seems to.

Re: Inverted Roller Build

Great line of sight, remembering there is actually 4 sets of bands at work, the sight picture is spectacular.

That ermes truck / bearing is cool as well. I notice you changed the "carbon waves" where you used to hook the bands onto at the handle is now a series of stainless loading pins, is that for neatness?

Cant wait to see some pool shots, just for reference. Quite frankly the fish this gun has already landed means it fires awesome, the tests in the pool is just for data.

Awesome build mate.

Re: Inverted Roller Build

Thankya.

Per Phil's note, I wasn't sure if the band wishbones would pop off my "carbon waves" and I was a little worried that they might make the bands harder to load.

The stainless pins work great, make it easy to load, and I don't have to worry about the shooting line getting snagged because it is rigged up cleanly along the side of the gun and doesn't come near the pins after its fired.

Re: Inverted Roller Build

I like all your builds. But this one is my favorite. Be interesting to see how much range a 3/8" Shaft can hold. If you do get in the pool, please take some video from the side on a few shots. With a new concept build or really any build, there can always be that little something which is hard to predict like a line grabbing etc which can throw off your range and accuracy but you can usually spot these things with different views in Slowmo. Spearboard gets a lot of flack but threads like this are what we are really here for. Thanks

Re: Inverted Roller Build

For some reason, none of my friends are willing to let me shoot this thing in their pools?!? Hoping to get some shots with a GoPro for my next trip to Baja.

Re: Inverted Roller Build

@grizzlestomp -

I’m trying to fine tune the particulars of my first inverted build (on a pipe gun) and put all my thoughts together for my first inverted completely custom gun.

This is an amazing piece of work! I have a question from any of the gurus who’ve followed this.

What is the purpose of the alemmani/seal style through gun roller in conjunction with an inverted roller setup? Does that act in the same way as a conventionally tied kicker band does by giving the shaft an initial start or what?

Re: Inverted Roller Build

That band is much longer by wrapping on both top and bottom decks and has pre-stretch before you even cock the gun, so it operates higher up the force profile for the band.

Re: Inverted Roller Build

Hey guys, I just want to say I love reading through these threads! I always learn so much, so I just want to say thank you and encourage us all to keep communicating!

BTW, I am the founder of the Red Rum Intl. clothing brand. I am interested in doing some diving across south Florida from Miami to Palm beach here in the late summer-fall while I am traveling the state trying to put my brand in stores. I will also be compiling footage for a massive Spearfishing video and want to include as many local divers in their towns as possible. These videos will be shown in shops across Florida. If you are interested please reach out to me on here or on Instagram: daniel_delsol

Also, you can checkout the current videos on our YouTube channel here:

A subscribe would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Inverted Roller Build

Forget to ask when you put all the photos up, but what is your reloading time on this impressive gun? That is from when you reload the shaft in the gun until the bands are all cocked and the line rigged. For some reason fish seem to have a good appreciation of reloading time and may hang around until it is nearly completed, then suddenly departing for parts unknown. I notice this when diving solo as there are no other distractions, nor chances of being shot.
