Galveston Island State Park info request
Just looking for opinions/feedback/info:
We are going to be staying at Galveston Island State Park end of July 2019. Anyone been there? Anyplace to free dive, water clarity, structure, etc. I see there is a public boat ramp on the bay side at Regatta Basin within a couple of miles. Any experience with this ramp or another one in the area? Thanks in advance.

The odds of more than a foot of visibility are slim and the water doesn't get deep very fast at all. I know of people that surf fish there mainly trout and an occasional redfish. Rarely when the weather conditions are good we get clear water in Galveston but don't count on it.

Thanks for the reply. We'll be H&L fishing but was hoping I could spearfish. How far out before it gets clear enough to dive?

July is hard to guess but usually around 20 miles it depends on how rainy it is in June. Last year we got clear water all the way to the beach for Memorial day.

Re: Galveston Island State Park info request
If you trailer that boat down to Surfside about 45 minute drive there are some old small platforms within sight once you clear the jetties. if the weather has been reasonable you should have around 10 ft vis. If you clear the jetties and head south for 11 miles there is a wreck (George Vancovour) sitting in about 0 ft of water.

Hey thanks! I'm good to hunt at 45 fsw. But platforms! We'll check it out. Depends on what THE OTHER has planned. After 34 years of marriage my self preservation instincts are pretty refined. Can you send coordinates for the wreck anyway. We could H&L off of it.
