Gary ,
the spearo is ~G~ GRAVE Gerard , the spearfishing guide from :
www.tuamotu-bluewater-spearfishing.com
and actual IUSA blue pacific marlin World record holder with a " small " one of 571 Lbs
http://www.iusarecords.com/ViewRecord.aspx?id=459

and what is number 70 ? it is one more than 69 ! means he had shot and already land seventy marlins including the IUSA WR for a white one :

http://www.iusarecords.com/ViewRecord.aspx?id=437

and some few over 700 lbs such as this 720 Lbs one

Re: 617 Lbs blue Marlin

Yes, that is an impressive fish, buuuuut 70? In the 10 months that I have lived in Mexico, I have had quite a few blue and black marlin come in for a look. There is not much challenge in shooting these fish as they come to YOU. Yes, I will pull the trigger one day, but only once, when I see the right fish at the right time. I do encourage divers to take one if they have the oppurtunity and the proper gear, but only one! They are amazing smoked and yes, the catch is eagerly taken by the locals should you chose to do so. This is only my opinion and you know what they say about that. Enjoy that record for now, for when I do pull the trigger on one, it will be going south of the border!

70 is because he is a Professional spearo , and upon where he is located , or he sell his fish or he give to the local population .

Not much challenge to shot ? may be but please try first and you 'll know better if there is not any challenge ? such as : the challenge is may be not to shot but to land it ! alone accordingly to the I.U.S.A rules .
