Talking La Paz Blue Water Hunters

We went out spearfishing yesterday, we got to the diving spot ( Punta Sur Cerralvo) around 8 am we jumped into the water to find amazing 100ft visibility not even 5 minutes in and i see a nice 38 Lbs Wahoo coming from behind me almost between my legs staring at the flasher like he was impnotized, I aimed at the center of his body and bam! My first Wahoo ever. Stoned him. 5 minutes in and it was looking like a great day already, we kept doing drifts down current throwing flashers for about 30 min, and we decided to go upcurrent from the seamount again, we jumped into the water and another wahoo, i took a shot at him but he was too far and not very interested in the flashers. A few moments later 6 Big Wahoos come from our left side and again we both missed the shot the water was so clear that they seem to be alot closer. We went up current again on the boat we jumped in the water again and the water was full of baitfish, not even 10 min and another wahoo came to inspect my friends Patrick flasher this time he got a head shot, and 10 min later of fighting we get another nice Wahoo. We made a couple deeper dives to 60 feet were it was full of Mullet pargo, triggers, Parrots and big Cabrilla, didn't really try to get any reef fish the wahoos were so much fun. During the day we continued seeing wahoos but no more were taken.

Here are some nice Pics.

My First Wahoo!

Enjoy,

Gonzalo

Re: La Paz Blue Water Hunters

I got this fish a couple weeks ago, south end of cerralvo, looking for some big Pargo i went down to 55 ft, i was about to come out and suddenly i got surrended by a school of about 50 Amberjacks. Hitted the fish on the gill plate but still fought the fish for about 15 min with reel. The fish weighted 24 Kilos.

Re: La Paz Blue Water Hunters

Went out to cerralvo this morning, we got to the usual diving place. My friend jumped into the water and 5 min later First Wahoo of the day!. He was fighting the Wahoo and i saw 3 Big Amberjacks crusing in deeper water, i started working my flasher and i made a drop to about 50 ft when i see the big school of AJ's i aimed at the closest one and shot him under his dorsal fin, by the time i reached the surface my reel was already empty luckily i had set up my gun with reel and also a float just in case. Took me about 15 min to bring him up, we had drifted alot by that time so we jumped into the boat and went back to were we started, a few minutes working the flasher and a nice Dorado passed by to check the flasher and my friend took a shot at him, hitted him in the head. Later on another Wahoo came from behind me to inspect my flasher or maybe the reflective tape i have on my fins, and i turned slowly and shot him, he we not very big, but he was really strong he again took most of my line and a few minutes of fighting and finally i dove down to about 30 ft to grab him. Enjoy the pics.

Re: La Paz Blue Water Hunters

Bravo!

A lot of my wahoo have been shot down through the head as well. Works great, but sure is a sign of being surprised by them huh?

For AJ's and wahoo at the same place, there are few places that rival Cerralvo Sur.
