Huge thanks from the kayak anglers

It was hard to sit there and take so much punishment yesterday. Now that it's finally over I can say what's on my mind.

That was one brutally lopsided, maniupulated, nearly hopeless fight. Between agenda driven science, constantly shifting goal posts, back room dealing and process changes in the dark of night, we were doomed from day 1.

Only you didn't get the memo.

As disappointed as I am in the unjust, excessive closure map we were dealt yesterday, and the lingering bitter taste of that unholy sacrifice of Malibu's Pt Dume at the alter of LA politics and the disgusting wholesale giveaway of public access in Orange County, I am equally proud of our collective efforts.

You don't know half of the obstacles we faced. There's no such thing as a victory here, there never could have been, the only question was how badly we'd lose. And although I urge you to continue to fight this battle to the bitter end as we move to the Fish and Game Commission and possibly other arenas, that it wasn't worse is a testament to your untiring and MLPAI-annoying refusal to go away.

Anyone who's been to a meeting knows the truth of these words. You also know that kayak anglers and free divers out-worked and out-attended every other segment including the enviros. Thank you for showing us the way.

A tip of the cap to all our other brother and sister sea hunters who stood with us shoulder to shoulder. Especially to Joe Nguyen, Jeff Sporcich, Joe Farlo, Paul Romanowski and so many other stalwart spearo troops. We're close kin; it was great to finally get to know some of you.

See you on Dec 9 as we start the next phase of this fight.

Thank you Paul for the kind words. What you say about the process is 100% true.

Please pass along my gratitude to the kayakfishing clan. We are honored to be fighting along side with you guys.

Paul, I cannot thank you for everything you endured in this process. Spearos may have been the first to enter the fight but the kayak fishing community was quick to join in and stayed in the fight and followed it to the bitter end. I am proud to know I share the ocean with the kayak fishing community.

Paul, you are awesome. The kayakers and freedivers are the two smallest groups in this process, yet we were the most involved. Awesome job, if you ever want to venture out of the safety of your kayak and see what's underneath, we'd love to take you out.
