Mako Yamamoto sizing question

Forgive me if this isn't the right area for this question...its my first post.

I am thinking about purchasing a Mako Yamamoto 2-piece wetsuit as my first spearfishing wetsuit and was a little confused on the sizing.

I am 5'10" and between 205-210lbs. I wanted to see if there was anyone else with around the same height/weight as me that has one of these suits and which size you went with.

I emailed Mako and he though the XL might be the best bet for me...I'm just worried if I lose 10 lbs it will be too loose. I appreciate any insight any of you might have.

Re: Mako Yamamoto sizing question

Thanks Tommy.

I did e-mail them and he suggested the XL. I'm just worried if it will still be a decent fit if I lost some weight. My weight fluctuates a lot. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see what they think and worst case, from what I hear they are super good about returns...

I'm really looking forward to the wetsuit...read lots of great things on this board.

I'm 5'11 and flux between 205-210lbs and the XL (5mm) fit perfect on me. We are at the heavy end of the XL so losing more weight would be fine IMO. These Yamamoto suits are really stretchy as you will see

I'm 6'3" 205, and the XL was baggy on me. I could feel and hear small waves slapping the air pockets around my neck. I use a large and like it a lot, though it's short.

Re: Mako Yamamoto sizing question

Huh, I'm 6' 3" 225 & the Mako XXL Yamamoto 5mil open cell fits really well but I'm dumping weight like crazy. So far (last weekend) fit is still really good. I have to wear the hood off my chin but that's just because & have a big noggin.
You might be okay with the large even with weight fluctuations but double check with them to make sure. Better to have a little cuff creep than loose pockets inside suit. You'll be stoked with the suit. Dano designed this latest model so well plus it has all the extras you'll need. Good luck. T

Re: Mako Yamamoto sizing question

Thats awesome! Thanks. @JSHUNTER Since we are pretty similar height/weight and the xl fits you perfect then it should work good for me. Worst case if i lose some weight by next season I could just sell it or give it to a buddy or something.

I can't wait to get this suit...I've heard nothing but great things about it.

Re: Mako Yamamoto sizing question

I own the 3mm Mako suit. I originally bought the xl, Im 5'9" 195lbs. Everything was too big. I went down to the L, top was good, bottoms were way too big, but mako wont miss match the sizes. I went down to the ML, bottoms are great and the top is ok...a little tight, the large top would have been better. I think the sizing they use runs big by about a size and a half.

Re: Mako Yamamoto sizing question

5'11" 210-215 I have a mako 5mm in xl. Everything is good except the neck. I put a volleyball in the neck for a few days, it seemed better. For me if I was gonna get a 3mm I would still get a xl. But if I was getting a 5mm I would probably look at another brand

@Paddow
The neck was too tight for you with the XL? I'm about an inch shorter than you and around your weight maybe a little lighter 205-210....Do you think the XL is the right way to go?

Re: Mako Yamamoto sizing question

Sounds like your just a bit smaller than me, an xl will prob be fine.
Especially if it's 3mm. If I was getting a 5mm I might investigate another brand. Not all brands are cut the same and a thicker suit won't stretch as much as a thinner suit.

Re: Mako Yamamoto sizing question

Unfortunately I am getting a 5mm. I've put in the order and should have it by next week...If it doesn't fit I'll update the post so maybe the next guy my size doesn't have the same problem. Mako seemed cool about me returning/exchanging it if it doesn't fit.

What brand would you recommend for someone with our height/weight?

Re: Mako Yamamoto sizing question

I just wanted to give you guys a quick update. I just received the 5mm green camo yamamoto from Mako...The suit looks awesome and just putting it up to my body it looks like it could be a good fit.

I flipped the suit inside out and there are a bunch of really deep cuts in the rubber...like all the way down to the nylon. Is that normal? I thought with buying a new suit it would be in new condition but this thing literally looks like it will fall apart if I put it on. I emailed Dano with some pics but wanted to see what you guys thought?

Best,
FS

No, if you bought new it should not have a cuts in the rubber. I've purchased two suit from them and have been happy with the money I have spent. Both were " tried on " and came with many cuts in them. But at the discount price I paid, hard for me to say anything about it. For the price they are great suits.
Did they send you a bottle of glue with the suit? They did with mine and that spoke loudly to me.

Re: Mako Yamamoto sizing question

This suit was sold to me as a new suit with no discount or anything and no glue...maybe they mistakenly sent me a used/tried on suit instead of a new one. Some of the cuts go all the way through to the nylon..is that something that can be fixed ok with glue? Thanks for you reply!
