Re: DiveGal Accident and DAN Update
Thanks everyone. I'm getting there. And yes, Jeff, DAN only covers recreational divers. But commercial guys do recreational dives, too, sometimes - I would think...
Nice coconuts there, Diver! LMAO Yep Harald. Gonna have 'em pumped up!

Re: DiveGal Accident and DAN Update
DAN covers anyhing in water involving recreational diving. Google DAN for their official site. You'll get more data than you'll know what to do with.

Re: DiveGal Accident and DAN Update
Any of their plans have skindiving coverage. I always go with the preferred plan, just renewed myself. They do alot of good things for the diving community as a whole too so its a good organization to be a member of and to contribute to.

The other thing is to make sure the boat has a location where you can suit up seated, and then do a backwards roll off the boat without standing up. Most smaller boats can accommodate this easily. Boats with bigger hulls may require the crew to think about it a bit more but it should be doable relatively easily. I dove for years with a fairly crippled diver with bad ankles, knees, and back. The backward roll entry is how we addressed his issues on drift dive entries. Recoveries can generally be done much more slowly with your gear coming aboard second.

Re: DiveGal Accident and DAN Update
That's the plan, Fred, on smaller boats. But there a number of bigger boats that I like to dive with the LGDs. I'm sure my captain buddies will help me stay active. I will let them know ahead of time my limitations and special needs.
Ditto, Andrew!

Re: DiveGal Accident and DAN Update
I have to re state if any of your are rec diving without it you're making a big mistake. The only thing I can see that you need to be aware of is that DAN insurance only covers you provided you have no other coverage, ie.) other insurance. Be aware of this! Buy the premium plan it rocks!

Re: DiveGal Accident and DAN Update
DAN covers all OUT OF POCKET expensives regardless of other insurance coverage you may have. If you have a primary insurance, DAN acts as you secondary insurance. If you have no primary, DAN covers everything. Not sure where you got this data, Hammerhead, but I just went through this. I have EXECELLENT work insurance, but DAN picked up ALL my out of pocket expenses. Most of the medical phycilities I worked with billed DAN directly for whatever my primary insurance didn't cover. I never even saw the bills.
