Quick Maui question.

Just got back from an epic family vacation on Maui. Just took the camera, and left the spearguns home. Last time I was there, (about 5 years ago), we spent a lot of time at Old Airport Beach. At that time, there was a "no spearing" sign up, and a volunteer from the Whale Foundation was there telling everyone that the area was a sanctuary and no spearing was allowed. I asked him about Roi, and he said even those were off limits. I later called the DNR and they said it was OK to spear Roi there, so I did.

Anyway, this time, the sign and volunteer are gone. There were two locals in the parking lot gearing up to go hunting. Asked if they were gonna spear dinner and they said yes. I didn't bug them any further, but I'm wondering, have the regs relaxed in the past 5 years?

Thanks,
Ron.

Re: Quick Maui question.

That's the Kahekili marine reserve .
All herbivorous fish are off limits
The Pacific Whale " volunteer " was off base.
The locals you saw this time we're not breaking the law, unless they took Uhu(Parot fish) Nenue( Rudder fish) or any Surgen fish
