What size gun do you use?
I've got a jbl sawed off magnum. It the only gun I've ever had and it's never let me down. However, I plan on spending a lot of time chasing tipalia this year and most of my success last summer came from shallow grassbeds where I think a smaller gun would have been much more maneuverable.
Just curious what size/ brand of gun freshwater guys are using out there? Thanks, Frank |

Re: What size gun do you use?
Frank.. Jbl makes smaller guns with smaller diameter shafts.. But they tend to have plastic handles .. Here we use lake guns .. Short ie 36 in but over powered with 9/16 in rubbers.. Check garage sales and possibly e bay.. U want a metal handle .. Short gun.. Some of old ones like Dacor were over engineered.. Also think about cutting a longer gun down.. Harry

Freshwater I use a 70cm Rob Allen and a Comp 2 Riffe (90cm). they seem to cover everything really nicely. I do bust out a 100cm Euro when the water is really clear from time to time.

Re: What size gun do you use?
I use a single 20mm band on open muzzle. I keep a 16mm band on there as a back up in case the 20mm had any issues. Last year I landed a 28.8lb carp with that set up amongst many other fish.

Re: What size gun do you use?
I shoot 40"-46" wood guns depending on the fish/vis.

I use a 60cm Mako and it's great for low vis out to about 10-12 ft on clear days. Works great for accurate shots on panfish as well as taking large catfish, carp, etc.

Re: What size gun do you use?
Depends on visibility and target. For hunting flooded timber/brush for crappie and bass I have a very short (18" stock) rearhandle, for carp/walleye/bass in average vis(utah 4-10 ft) I use a 34" rearhandle, and I have a longer rearhandle that I use at powell and the gorge when I have vis above 10 feet. My longest gun is a mares phantom 75 cm that I find to be too long except with exceptional vis.

34" is equal to 86.4cm, is it home made gun? My 60cm Mako is about 25" overall length, when I speared powell for US nationals last year I used a 80m Mako predator pro and had great results.

Re: What size gun do you use?
60cm Mako here. Single band, plenty of power, quick to reload, good in low vis, easily maneuverable. I'm very happy with it and haven't wished for a different gun yet.

Re: What size gun do you use?
I use 1-20mm band on an open muzzle, I find it very easy to load.

Re: What size gun do you use?
I'm probably going to take my 67" Ulusub out for carp this summer... should be good practice
just have to really plan the shots, with lots of space behind the fish....
