Looking for freedivers in Islamorada
I leave my 38 ft sport fish and my 20 ft flats boat in Islamorada at Founders Park (MM87) 7 months a year from Late October until June 1st. Over the last few years I have made a lot of good friends in the Keys but have yet to met anyone who likes to freedive and spearfish. So, here I am on Spearboard looking for guys to dive with.
I am a trained level III free diver that retired young (age 51) so I have the time. The months my boat is in Islamorada I spend more days in the Keys than I do in Jupiter. I have to tell you this is weird looking on the internet to meet other guys. I hope it doesn't turn out to be like bad internet dating... You know like when a chick post pics of herself from 15 years ago, tells you she has an athletic body and shows up to the first date 50 pounds heavier than the pics. You think "Athletic body? When did doughnut eating become a sport?" Looking forward to meeting normal guys that want to dive and kill some fish. Thanks John Slattery Jupiter, FL |

Re: Looking for freedivers in Islamorada
Hello John nice to meet you. My name is Ryan and I live up here in Jupiter area as well. But I use to live in the Keys and still go down there a lot in the winter for bluewater spearing wahoo. I usually trailer my boat down there but be great if someone who was keen to go diving down there had a boat there save me trailering! I keep my boat in the water behind my place in North Palm be great to meet up and talk. Ryan

Re: Looking for freedivers in Islamorada
My son and I might be down for some fish killing. We live in Homestead and trailer to Tavenier quite a bit in the next few months. We are avid free divers / spearos.

We're almost the same age (I'm 53). Unfortunately, I still have to work... I have an "athletic body" too... but had put some pounds lately... However, I can comfortably spearfish up to 80' and know how to drive a boat. I am experienced either blue water or reef. To the point: I would love to go spearing with you (during the weekends). I like to take my son with me (16), who is also an accomplished freediver. He's been in the water with me since he was 8 years old. Whoever sees him diving remains amazed. Lately is putting more fish in the table than everyone else we're diving with. I live in North Miami Beach area and can drive either to Stuart or Islamorada. Please PM with your phone number to be in contact.

I can attest that Marco is a great guy to dive with, as long as you're not the type who gets upset when the other guy puts WAY more fish in the boat than you do.
