Re: Gun look ok?

Don't know why photos are upside down :/ but all in all I had a lot of fun and can't wait to start more! I learned so much! Like slow the heck down, and practice every cut on scrap first!! No matter how easy it seems! Cut 0 corners and expect things to go wrong hahaha

Those are the only quality hard woods though... What do you think? Also, thoughts on tight bond 2?
Be really careful with Maple and make sure you seal every nook and cranny with epoxy. The only two blank failures I ever had were ones where I used maple. They both started to split up the middle where the lams met. I still have a couple more blanks with maple that have been hanging for a while. Maple and walnut looks killer though!

Thanks for the advice man! I really appreciate it! I clamped it up today and am leaving it till Monday, made sure to use a lot of glue...so the lam lines should be good, I also whet with 2.5"x2.5" to give me plenty to work with.. Went with 3 walnut lams and 2 maple... Very excited to see it! How do you get those crazy curvs on your gun!? Precise chisel work?

Thanks again,
Wyatt

Re: Gun look ok?

I saw the video of your purple heart blank, that looks really sweet.

I do the crazy curves with a bandsaw or a jigsaw, depending on how much room I have to work with. Just rough it out, don't cut to your layout lines. After that switch to a hand tool to refine it, my go-to is a Grobet half-round rasp. Finish it off with some 60 or 80 grit sandpaper, or if you have an oscillating spindle sander that works well too. Below is the roughed out version on another gun I made
