I hope this story isn't true, but we all know it's possible. I had a bad Tiger shark encounter out from Crystal River around some artificials a couple years ago that could've turned out badly. A lone big one made 3 passes at me after I shot a grouper in poor visibility on my line gun. I had an empty gun to club it with and had to shove the gun in its mouth the last time before it took my stringer and another big gag with it. I was thankful that all I lost was a stringer, fish and the light that had been mounted on the end of the gun. I have shark spikes on all of my guns now and usually wear a shark shield, esp in poor viz or around artificials. That spot is now named Tiggers House on my GPS.

Re: Any news on diver attacked by shark?

Met this guy in 60' off Crystal River last year June. Had to bump him off me twice before he moved along. Last year was the first bad shark year in close I have had in quite a while. Now that the bulls are taking residence up here things will continue to get dicer. Tigers, sandbars and duskys are not too bad to deal with but bulls are the wildcard in shallow water.

Re: Any news on diver attacked by shark?

Is there anything backing this up? So far in this thread no news articles have been posted and it seems to boil down to hearsay.

Ran a Google search for "missing diver Florida Gulf" and this was the only incident that appeared to be in the correct timeframe:

http://forums.floridasportsman.com/s...r-Keaton-Beach

No mention of a shark; the only gear reported found was two "dive bands" - ?
