Youre pinning BP and the Deepwater Horizon spill on socialism?

So Mercedes Benz, Porsche, and Volkswagen are also "living proof of how crappy a socialist system is and what that system does to a business and the quality of their work and product?"

BP, and the Deepwater Horizon spill are the perfect examples of the failure of this monster we call government. When one thinks government can solve our problems, just look at them to see how well government does anything.

Explain how deregulation would have prevented the Deepwater Horizon spill, or helped to hold BP accountable.

Regulations are ineffective. The people are bought off, look the other way, or just are incompetent.
The only way to ensure the safety is to hold them accountable, big time. As for the BP spill, the investigation was shady, non-transparent, and blame disseminated. BP got off with a slap on the hand. BP stock price is currently only 23% below it's all time highs.

Ok.

Our government could have required acoustic/remote shutoff switches for offshore drilling operations, the way Norway and Brazil require them for all their offshore drilling operations, for example. Of course this poses an extra expense to oil companies who have the ears (and the pockets) of our politicians.

Additional regulations which would have helped hold BP more accountable and/or penalize them more seriously for the spill are debatable (and assuming you have the right preventative regulatory measures in place, perhaps unnecessary). But that is the only way a government can hold foreign companies responsible for destruction to the environment and threatening the livelihood of American businesses- fair and responsible regulation.

Your turn. How would deregulation have prevented the Deepwater Horizon spill and helped to hold BP accountable?

Making sure they will be penalized harshly if they cause our environment harm will cause them to self regulate. Self regulation is the best. Gov't regulation is a false safety net.

First the Deepwater had just received freaking safety awards from the government, second the government had issued wavers on the safety violations found. Government oversight was at it's best, as the overseers were looking for "their " best interest in performing their job which is the case in government employees.

That's a false safety net. Harsh fines just mean that the company stores wealth in offshore coffers and then files bankruptcy when they screw up.

these financial penalties are not paid by the corperation, they are are paid by the costumers much like corperate taxes which you rally against.

Rally against corporate taxes. Don't know where you get that from.
They aren't going to charge the customers more, they have to stay competitive. They aren't a monopoly.

Deregulation would not have prevented the Deepwater spill any more than regulation prevented it. Much like gun control, the politicians scream for more regulation when they will not enforce the laws that are already in place.

Bingo.

The same is happening in the financials regulation. The SEC is hopelessly corrupt.
The system needs a big reset. Someone to clean house and put some honest people in there. Break up the corrupt MSM. Encourage the people to question gov't, always.
