"USA Freedom Act" Has Been Amended To EXTEND The Patriot Act - See Title VII

Quote:
Also, amendments to the USA Freedom Act aim to block the NSA’s ability to siphon and store the so-called metadata on domestic and international communications, instead keeping the information in the hands of telephone and internet companies.

SEC Official Claims Over 50% Of Private Equity Audits Reveal Criminal Behavior

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-0...minal-behavior

Quote:
Mr. Bowden, who heads the SEC’s examinations unit, speaking at a private equity conference, explained that “more than 50 percent of private equity firms it has audited have engaged in serious infractions of securities laws.” What is so incredible about the talk, is that while Bowden goes into details of shady practice after shady practice, he ultimately admits that the SEC isn’t being particularly aggressive with the private equity industry because “we believe that most people in the industry are trying to do the right thing, to help their clients, to grow their business, and to provide for their owners and employees.” What the SEC is basically admitting, is that private equity firms are also “too big to regulate” and, of course, “too big to jail.”...

Good thing we attacked Iraq, Afganistan, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, Yemen, and Ukraine to stopped all this terrorism. Forgive me if I left a country out...it's so hard to keep up these days.

Colonel Wilkerson: Oligarchy Controls U.S. War-Making

http://www.zerohedge.com/contributed...-us-war-making

Quote:
Americans are starting to understand that the U.S. is an oligarchy, rather than a democracy or a republic. (Even the chair of the Federal Reserve can't really disagree.)

That's true of war-making and foreign policy, as well.

Consummate insider Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson - former chief of staff to Colin Powell, the guy who wrote Powell’s famous speech on Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, and now distinguished adjunct professor of Government and Public Policy at William & Mary - notes:

Who's behind the White House, and who's therefore behind U.S. foreign policy, more or less?

I think the answer today is the oligarchs. Which would be the same answer, - incidentally, ironically, if you will - for Putin in Russia.

The people who own the wealth, the people who therefore have the power and who more or less (and I'm not being too facetious here) buy the president and thus buy American foreign policy...

Re: Corruption in D.C.

That's right, this guy who said it was OK to kill Americans w/o due process w/ a drone is getting promoted.
I guess that's all you have to do in DC in order to get ahead...act like an enemy of freedom. Just like all the incompetent people responsible for 9/11 were promoted. People in charge of Ruby Ridge, OKC bombing, etc., etc...

NY Times: The Senate Foolishly Rushing Confirmation of David "Drone 'Em Dead" Barron

Quote:
The Senate is unnecessarily rushing to vote on President Obama’s nomination of David Barron for a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston, even though the public has yet to see documents written by Mr. Barron that have raised legitimate concern among civil liberties advocates on both the left and the right….

Every judicial nominee should receive an up-or-down vote. But the decision by Senate Democrats to charge ahead to a vote on Mr. Barron’s nomination, scheduled for Thursday, would shut the public out of the debate because it has not had a chance to consider the memo.

Much of Mr. Paul’s speech was an impassioned and articulate defense of the centrality of due process even for the most reviled. “This isn’t a debate about transparency,” he said. “This is a debate about whether or not American citizens not involved in combat are guaranteed due process.”...

That is exactly WHY they get ahead. The haters of freedom are in power, and they promote their own kind.

US Begins Delivering F-16s To Iraq This Week, A Decade After It Wiped Out Iraq's Air Force
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-0...-its-air-force

Quote:
It seems like it was only yesterday when the US, under the guise of a fabricated WMD threat, was invading Iraq to liberate its oil deposits.

Fast forward to this week, when as Reuters reports, the US will deliver the first of 36 F-16 fighter jets to Iraq in what Baghdad's envoy to the United States called a "new chapter" in his country's ability to defend its vast borders with Iran and other neighbors. Which merely shows that since the US has "sanctioned" virtually every other potential customer of US weapons, it now has no choice but to invoice defense machinery deliveries (and boost factory orders and GDP) to former enemies. It also means that in several years, when Iraq reverts to a posture that is unfriendly to the US, and when the US shale boom is long gone and foreign sources of petroleum are once again all the rage, the US will have to fight its own fighter jets in the name of yet another war of democratic liberation and emancipation...

The Purchase Of Our Republic

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-0...e-our-republic

Quote:
Americans know that something is wrong, deeply wrong. They see signs of the problem everywhere: income inequality, growing concentration and power of mega corporations, political donations/corruption, the absence of jobs with decent salaries, the explosion of the US prison population, healthcare costs, student loan debt, homelessness, etc. etc.

However, the true causes and benefactors behind these problems are purposely hidden from view. What Americans see is Kabuki Theater of a functioning form of capitalism and democracy, but beyond this veneer our country has devolved into the exact opposite.

Those who benefit from this crony capitalist state go to extreme lengths to paper over the reality and convince Americans that the system works, the American Dream is still a reality and that American democracy is in fact democratic.

Below I hope to begin to outline some of the underlying dynamics and trends that have evolved in recent decades and led us so far from what we once were. As fun as it would be, the answer is not some evil conspiracy by the Illuminati, but rather the unfortunate result of three long term and mutually reinforcing components that have been attacking the fundamental roots of the structure of our Republic.

The first is the increased concentration of corporate and private wealth. Both of which are quickly yelled down in the media as anti-free market and class war hysteria.

The second is the use of this wealth to capture all three branches of government in order to ensure the continued extraction of capital from the many and to the few.The rich might have climbed the ladder because they earned it, but they have then purchased government to pull up the ladder behind them.

The consequence of the first two components is a democracy in name only that represents the very few....
