harvesting anchors

People talk about doing this a lot. This was the first time I have gone out with that specific goal though.
Overall it was a pretty fun morning.

Re: harvesting anchors

Capturing anchors on scuba should be illegal... haha NIce video man. I've found some this summer and nobody will buy them on Craigslist

Re: harvesting anchors

I've recovered several over the years but one stands out in my mind. We were about 20 miles or so off Ft. Myers diving in 100 feet at a place where they dumped several railroad cars. I found an anchor with about 30 feet of stainless chain. It was the plow type and easily would be worth $400 or more. I gave it to Ray Odor who gave it to one of his buddies.

Re: harvesting anchors

Lol Right! it's so unfair to the anchors. Damn I would be thrilled to find a high dollar anchor, I have seen one monster anchor snagged on a barge about 20 miles off but didnt want to screw with that kind if weight without lift bags or rope.

Re: harvesting anchors

I was wearing a Zeagle BC that had 40 pounds of lift. I clipped it to a D ring and hit the inflator. I never could have recovered it otherwise.

Geez, don't tell the Feds- they'll say they're over harvested and put a season, size, and bag limit on 'em.

Re: harvesting anchors

(lol @ wood guy) i'm not sure what my dive rite bcd can do but i was happy we found the rope. It was a little hard to keep from tangling in it but we just took our time and it worked out pretty well.

I got an anchor a few weeks ago. I just send them up and hope the boat deals with it.

Cool vid!

There's a lot of money in a good anchor and chain/rode.

i always dove with a 50lb lift bag on the bottom of my diverite plate, it came in a velcro bag that opened from the side always came in good use and totally out of the way. loved that setup!

Re: harvesting anchors

I was worried when I first saw this thread because I had just lost my 22 kg bruce with 40' of chain on the Sagebrush and thought you had nabbed it. I was finally able to get back out this weekend to retrieve it. I almost maxed out my 100 lb lift bag between the anchor and chain!

Definitely rewarding to retrieve my own. I had pulled a good condition danforth off the same wreck on the first trip. take a penny, leave a penny? and by penny, I mean anchor! haha

Ballzy! One mistake and you're going in one of two directions fast.
