So did they weigh the warsaw in for the St. Pete open. Did that win the biggest grouper?

They stopped that when Tony was doing tech dives and hunting warsaws to take for the SPO. They can say all they want about safety but IMHO it was to exclude some divers that threatened the ability of some of the clubs heavy hitters to compete against mix divers that had the ability to hunt warsaws.

Hopefully this awesome catch could change things for future tournaments but I doubt it..... It's their tournament and their rules.

Well, I hate to point out the obvious but I believe the rules were intended to even things up so that 'pay for privileged' isn't in play? Flame on.

I've had some big fried grouper like this that was pretty decent. I'd be interested in hearing others' opinions.

What does the privilege comment mean?

I don't get the privileged comment as well? Do you mean the boat, fish or the depth?

The fish was taken on a known wreck that would be accessible to just about any offshore capable boat on that day. If I had any interest I could have easily taken my 40 year old sled to it with no issue.

If it is about depth, set a depth limit but good luck with enforcing it. There are lots of participants that are hunting carbos nearly as deep as where this fish was taken.

I don't want to put words in his mouth, but I believe that the privileged comment was meant that it was to keep the tournament fun for ordinary, recreational spear fisherman like myself. I stopped doing the tournament a few years ago when it was always the same people winning, that were traveling far distances, doing 200'+ dives and spending days scouting before the tournaments...it was no longer fun for the average guy that goes out a couple of times a month to once a week. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the guys that are running 400 miles a day and spending $1,000 on gas, it's their time and money and they can do with it what they please, but it just made it no fun anymore (IMO) for the typical guy that runs out 50-80 miles and dives 100' or so. It started to feel like I was taking a knife to a gun fight. As I said, not hating on anyone for spending their money and time the way they wish....just expressing my thoughts on the "privileged" comment. Others may have a different take on it (yourself included) and they are no more right or wrong than myself.
