found the big cod early season. any one want to try for a big one
looks like there is a muddy shelf about 10 miles out of NH and just due south of the ise of shoals in that hold cod in the 35 - 60+ lb range reliably in the last 2weeks of may and earl weeks of june.
http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Fish...rt_052208.html not sure of the depth of the entire area, but from what im told by a employee of the helen H " party boat for cod" there is a shelf boardering the mudd flat at about 40 feet... jonahstribe i think your bait and wait strategy might be perfect for this spot. this year my goal is going to be a 20+ lb cod on spear....i dont think its been done to many times, and they are just awsome eating. any one getting interested in going after some cod with me this season? |

It looks like the depths (if I'm looking in the right spot) appear to be anywhere from 24'-48'. There's a drop off that goes to about 70'.

Re: found the big cod early season. any one want to try for a big one
Is there a R&R charter we could take a day in advance so that we could get a "general ideea" on the location/depth etc?
I'll do my best to be in (the work sometimes interferes with this fishing thingy...), and I'll buy the Garmin map for the area. I don't know what too look for on the map when it comes to cod - if it is for stripers those maps (structures/dropoffs etc) are better than tips you could get from old timers, but again I have no clue what to look for when it comes to cod. |

Hey, I would be in for some diving up there. I got some money still and would gladly spend it on such a trip! Throw down for gas/boating/(beer/food) expenses, even a charter if it could be done!

another spot that holds cod and is closer for you rhody guys is the south shore coast from marshfield up to cohasset. lots of rock islands and ledges close to shore and within easy kayak distances.

I would bring a dive light. most cod that ive seen are either in the rocks or coming out of them. would be handy for checking under the ledges

Re: found the big cod early season. any one want to try for a big one
hey guys. im about 60 % finished moving. i moved to salem NH. about 30 min from the ramp out to the isle of shoals. have plenty of room if any of you guys driving a long way to dive for the cod this may/june. this place is about 2 times bigger than my old place so crashing hear after a long day of diving is no problem with me. beats driving 2 houres depending wear ur coming from. i have the new fuel tanks comming for my boat. should be hear by next weekend. hopefully ill be done intime fo the cod in may. but if so theres room for 8, for any one who wants a seet. iv done some R+R off of the north ledge of stellwagen. good fishing, big water, and the occasional tuna are not uncommon. also have done jefreys ledge for cod. productive, but very deep.

Hi,
I would realy appreciate your hospitality - it is a long drive from Long Island, NY so I would have to crash somewhere. I'm good for all obvious expenses ranging from gas and ice to ribeye stake and beer. I wouldn't be surprised if Zag will jump on the wagon for some cod... Regards, Stefan |
