Re: Parrots

Darts under proper care can live 20-30 years.

Even if they dont, youll be breeding them soon enough to have a line that will go on for a long time.

I used to breed about five different species. Now living a nomadic lifestyle wont allow it, but Ill get back into it when I get back.

I've had snakes, and have some interest in hots, but not enough I think to go through with it. Darts are definitely my favorite herp I have ever worked with.

Re: Parrots

I lost my terrier to old age in April. It was a bad time, coming after a year in which I lost both my mother and my wife. Now I have a standard poodle pup (11 mo.) Life is already getting better. Birds are great to look at but a life without dogs is not worth living.

When I was looking at the breeder Macaw years ago I thought the same thing about horses.I bought one for me and one for the wife.Inlaws bought several more and I ended up taking care of six horses with no financial help or labor help to keep them up or even to clean the stalls.I love working with them and disappearing in the mountains but they are a LOT of work with that many animals.
Should have bought a few birds.Could have got a bigger sailboat for what I spent in time and money on the horses.

Re: Parrots

Picked up a Yellow Nape Amazon parrot today. He is 9 years old and his name is Popeye. The cage was included but he will be getting a larger cage with a play area on top.
He was sort of bitey at the shop but after getting him home he came out of his cage and was pretty nice.He evidently likes his new home because he goes to my son and wife(who wasnt thrilled) also.

Re: Parrots

Congrats on your new parrot. I don't know a thing about them but he looks cute.

I mostly wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your dog passing. That's a tough one. I hope your doing alright.

Don't get a bird that is the same color as your carpet. Ask me how I know.

Thanks,My older son is a few acres over and I babysit his personal dogs.Still doesnt take the missing feeling away but when he brings a puppy from his kennel life seems pretty great.
Guy that sold me Popeye lost three dogs in three months and has a giant poodle 17 years old.Too much for me.

I found a Cockatiel and nursed it back to health to lose it in a ceiling fan my 4 yr old turned on.
Popeye is clipped until/if I wire in the front porch.

Re: Parrots

Popeye has transformed to a snapping menace to a love sponge.I guess getting your cage cleaned,a shower and some treats changed his attitude.
Today he was letting EVERYONE pet and scratch him.At the shop he was on attack mode.He let my grandson pet him before anyone.

Pics man picsI may end up with a Blue and Gold if I get a deal.Im looking at wiring in the covered porch for Popeye so he can be outside but safe from our resident Redtail hawk.Once I have it wired I feel there would be room for a few birds to be comfortable and room enough to exercise.
The Macaws at the shop were bald and living in filthParrots are love sponges. You get what you give them.
