Backpacking and Spearfishing the World
About two months ago, I resigned from my job in New Zealand and started a trip around the world.
After a reunion in Florida with a bit of spearfishing, I headed east. My European adventure started in Sweden, staying almost a month, enjoying the natural beauty, awesome food (read salmon, aka lax) and good folks. I was able to get in some rock climbing, commercial fishing and sightseeing. Next stop was Amsterdam where I am now and a quick tour of the city led me to a simple conclusion: I'm dying to get back in the water. So now I'm about to fly to Barcelona to start my Mediterranean tour. Hopefully, I wont have any trouble getting new gear (I need everything), and then will be able to find some decent dive spots along the Costa Brava. Continuing on will take me through France and then Italy, where I hope to hop a flight to Durban for a quick South African smash before continuing on to Greece and Turkey. If you or anyone you know is going to be in any of those places, get in touch!! It would be great to have some good contacts along the way!

Also forgot to add that I've got a blog: http://koltfish.tumblr.com
It's lacking in the spearfishing department, but I haven't been in the water for quite a while. Hopefully that will change.

I can vouch that Kolt is a rad guy! Definitely a fun addition to any adventure. Got the privilege of hanging with him in NZ and there was never a dull moment. From a drunken walk following a massive bagpipe band through the streets of Napier to top off New Years eve to a BBQ ending in fire dancing and slack-lining. Maybe next time we will get to dive together!

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World
Chur, Jake! I will certainly have to make a stop in Hawaii next time I'm on my way to FL!!
Forrest, thanks for that. I'll be in touch if I have any questions on particular spots. In other news, I've just learned that to get a spearfishing license in Spain (and France), you have to get a doctor-signed medical certificate saying that you are fit for the sport, then you have to buy a year-long license. With that in mind, I think I'll check out the coast, maybe do some quick freediving and then boost to Italy.

Let me know if you will venture from Turkey to Cyprus. I could show you some nice places to dive. Zenobia wreck, for example.

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World
Update: I'm in Perpignan, France and will be making my way to Nice in the next few days. I've also added new pics to the blog and if I can find a computer, I will have a ton more.
