Re: Recommendations for fabricator of dive ladder/platform in NPR/Clearwater area?

BIG shoutout and thank you to member jstbecauz - he PMed me and ended up giving me a custom made aluminum ladder very similar to the Garelick but with a flip-up bracket. I'm going to get a custom made plate to mount it onto my swim platform, put some non-skid on the rungs, and use a bungee to keep it in place upright when not in use, but it is lightweight, won't break off if I forget to bring it up, and is very sturdy!

Nice. Free usually solves purchasing decisions. Nice job jsbecauz.

I'd weld some tabs like mentioned before to keep divers from slipping off. What's your plan for non-skid?

A few ideas...

There are underwater grip tapes made for applications like pools. It probably wouldn't last for too many seasons, but it's a cheap solution. Just retape it as needed.

Alternatively you could pick up some aluminum step plates for tube steps. Something like this https://www.morris4x4center.com/nerf...te-war712.html Through bolt them to the rungs, maybe try and bend them to fit around whatever diameter tube he used on the rungs.

You could Line-X it. Though that'd be pretty expensive.

Plastidip. Not sure how long that would last and it would likely hold water which could lead to corrosion. Same potential if you used a non-skid paint.

You could u-bolt Starboard non-skid. Deep Blue in Tarpon Springs sells it.

That's all I got. I like the diamond step plate option the best. Permanent solution.

Much better than non slip tape is clear marine epoxy and carborundum. I originally bought this stuff for speargun grips but then started doing tests with it on different things. The result is amazing grip that wont peel off like the tapes and you can pick whatever grit you want and easily repair areas that wear thin.
One bag of carborundum (silica carbide) is enough for many projects.

get some clear west systems epoxy if you dont already have some and you can put crazy grip on anything.

So you put down a smearing of the epoxy and then dust it with the caborundum?

You have to wait a little untill the epoxy starts to gel, otherwise the grit can get too embebed in the epoxy. You need it to stay on the surface 50/50 to provide non-skidness.

I do the same with my speargun grips, although I use salt... then, when you rinse it the first time, the salt dissolves and you get a surface full of tiny craters that grips like crazy but does not destroy your gloves (as the sand or carborundum could).

Better picture of the platform down with the 1 inch closed cell neoprene rubber.

Here's some pics of the ladder installed. I think it is going to be great!

Re: Recommendations for fabricator of dive ladder/platform in NPR/Clearwater area?

Goimg to be hard getting into boat in full gear without a nice platform to stand on like mine has. Mine would be better with a longer rung system. But it would drag in the water when plaining with platform up. I am 75 still can stand up get on platform and get into boat alone with full gear fins included. Been using that platform for 30 years.

Re: Recommendations for fabricator of dive ladder/platform in NPR/Clearwater area?

Update - used the ladder on Saturday and it was AWESOME! Worked great, supported my fat ass with full gear on and fins, never moved when flipped up even in the chop coming back or on the drive to and from the ramp. A HUGE improvement to my old ladder.

Thank you, jstbecauz !!
