Homemade Kelp Float
A friend of mine made me a homemade Kelp float. He first ran the rope thru the funnel with a knot in the rope big enough so that the rope would not pull thru the small end of the funnel. He then taped the small end so the fiberglass resin would not flow out the end. He allowed the rope loop to extend out past the end of the funnel so that a float line can be attached. Then he poured some resin in the funnel to create a resin plug on the small end. After that dried he sprayed 2 or 3 inches of foam into the funnel and allowed it to expand and completely dry. Once dry he repeated this process until eventually the funnel was full. He said that if you fill the funnel with foam all at once there is a chance that the foam will not dry properly in the middle.
When he got to the large end of the funnel he used electrical tape to help shape the foam into a dome. After the foam was dry he painted the float. I haven't used it yet but I am looking forward to find out how well it will pull thru the kelp. Part list: Transmission Funnel One Can of triple expansion Foam One piece of rope One can of spray paint Electrical tape Fiberglass resin For some reason I can't upload the picture. I'm sure it it's operator error. Hope this is useful to someone. Aric Curtis 619 207-7628 I don't check my email very often and I don't get on the board often so if you have any questions txt me. |
