Trailer tire repair with air impact wrench with tank?
Last time out had to change a trailer tire and lost over an hour and busted my hump getting the lug nuts off the studs. They weren't really that rusty but any rust creates difficulty backing them off.
Cordless impact drivers aren't cheap and my luck the batteries would be dead. And it's more crap to pack on Keys trips. I always have multiple scuba tanks and already have air tool hose, was wondering whether could run an air impact wrench off it all somehow. Anyone willing to give the design a shot? Bet anyone with a trailer and tanks would maybe benefit. Thanks in advance. |

Do it all the time, the typical 1st stage reg puts out 140 lbs + or -
I have run impact guns, DA sanders ( took the finish of an entire kitchen cabinet system while still hanging on the walls) used the cheisel to take a port hole off a ship wreck... |

Yep, I've a setup for my tanks to run pneumatics.

Your LDS probably sells an adapter similar to this one:

Re: Trailer tire repair with air impact wrench with tank?
My go to is an antique Dacor 900 1st stage, ( That I used to use in the late 70's maybe) fitted with a Milton quick coupling. Handy to fill tires with, and most anything...But.. I'll share with you another great use,,
Ever have trouble getting a wetsuit on or off? Back in the day guys used to wear panty hose cause the suit slides better on that slick material...tho they often got quite a bit of razzing for it. Get yourself an air gun, attach it to the power inflator hose on the 1st stage, blow air up your wrist or ankle..the suit will inflate like the Michelin Man...and slide on easy peasy! I have used that system for many years in my shop helping people get suits on or off that didn't really fit. OK…now THAT secret is out…..! |

That's how we installed mooring anchors into rocks. Scuba tank, whip hose and several cheap air drill motors. They didn't like salt water apparently.

This is what you want, then head to harbor freight for some cheap hose and a few fittings. The fitting for the bc hose may not flow a whole lot of air, so it may be helpful to have a good section of pneumatic hose (like 10 ft or more) to act as an intermediate pressure reservoir immmediately upstream of your tool. I've run pneumatic tools off scuba regulators many times - cut off wheels, chisels etc.

No. On the output of the first stage. Adjustable regulators are cheap along with the hose and fittings. It makes for a convenient setup.

Re: Trailer tire repair with air impact wrench with tank?
Right. The output that goes to the second stage regulators and BC power inflater.
The High Pressure side has such a small hole that you wouldnt get any real CFM from it, and what are you going to run on tank pressure ( 3500 PSI?) |
