New HeadHunter Boat

Thought I'd share a few pics and details about my new boat. I purchased the rig last summer and Ricky and I spent the majority of the winter completely redoing her.

She's a 35 Contender Hull...started life as a side console model...great for familys that like to fish but not so great for a Hardcore off shore spearing boat. But...she does have that great Contender Hull...so.........after weeks of demoing...planning...a few $$$ and buckets of sweat...here is the almost final result. What she looked like when I bought her.......

Re: New HeadHunter Boat

And what she looked like last week...have made one dive trip on her so far and she exceeded all my expectations. Holds 32 steels in dedicated tubes,,,,sleeps 4 with a massive cabin......2500 Lbs built in fish box capacity...340 fuel...twin Suz 300's for power.....custom everything built and designed by HeadHunter Fiberglass Works Inc(Dan and Rickys Fiberglass)...this thing is a beast offshore...the long range big fish potential is off the charts....if I ever do another tournament, it'll probably do pretty well there too! If theres interest, I'll take and post a few shots of the interior and cabin......DM

Awesome!

Definate interest in seeing any and all pics of that battlewagon...

Did you get rid of your last one?

What kind of performance numbers?

Very nice looking rig.

I also ask what happened to the old boat?

Re: New HeadHunter Boat

There are more than just a few buckets of sweat in this one. Dan is being extremely modest on the amount of heart and soul he and Ricky have put into this boat. Quite frankly it has ended up being far beyond my expectations.

Not many folks have spent time on the original "Headhunter", but I have and I can tell you that it is the perfect long range dive boat designed only for spearfishing. There is nothing on it I would change and I have copied many ideas from it on my own boats. That being said, the big girl only lacked one thing....... speed. Well, that is not an issue with this boat and I can’t wait to paint the deck crimson.

Congrats to Dan and Ricky on this project! It is truly a one of a kind spearfishing machine.

Re: New HeadHunter Boat

IMO you made the perfect outboard dive boat. Also interested in more pics and performance numbers. Coolest boat I've seen in a while.

Re: New HeadHunter Boat

You know when I looked at the first pic I was thinking if someone has ever taken a side console and converted to center console or even better a pilothouse. You guys answered
my questions to the t.I've seen a few bigger boats for sale that would be good for another project but I don't really care for side console boats.I don't think there is another contender anywhere like that, truly one of a kind.

Re: New HeadHunter Boat

There's gotta be one of those mini turbo ice makers somewhere on board.

Those hulls are great and land softly on a fast run in the rollers. Nice work gentlemen!

Re: New HeadHunter Boat

Thanks for the kind words...I'll take some pics of the interior and lay out and post 'em as soon as I can. As far as performance figures....with 4 guys and a 100 gallons of fuel (light load for propping) with a set of Bravo One 22p 4 blades, she maxed out at 46.3K @ 6100 and cruised at 34.4K at 4500...fuel burn was 24 gph at 34.4K for 1.4nmpg. On her first dive trip I loaded her down with a Heavy load, 340 Fuel (filled it to test props again) 1500 ice, 24 steels and 3 divers which is over 5000 Lbs of fuel, ice and tanks. She cruised at 31.3K at 4600, burning a hair over 26GPh for about 1.2nmpg. I was thrilled to get that kind of fuel burn pushing that size of boat with that type of load.

I also was thrilled to get a 6k displacement speed at 1700 RPM using only one engine and getting 6 knots and a fuel burn of 2.3 gph for 2.6 nmpg. Set the garmin autopilot (a truly kick azz AP by the way) and go a long way on a little fuel...

Anyway, I'd be glad to answer any questions you have about her....I'll also post more performance figures as I obtain them, different props, etc.....
