Re: Current and tides Dry Torgugs

Are you looking for an up to date chart, or tide/current info ?

The sombrero key to dry tortugas chart, 11434, is your best bet. I think the most recent soundings are from 2009, but a lot of them date back to the early 1900s. They don't update charts that often, although you can look in the local notice to mariners for chart corrections.

As for currents and tide, lots of variables. Depends on where the Gulf Stream is, or what phase the moon is in. It can get ripping pretty good out there under certain circumstances that can make it difficult to dive.

Re: Current and tides Dry Torgugs

Currents is what I'm interested in, We made this trip last year and tried some deep drop but the current ripping so hard 10# of lead would not get you bait to the bottom.
The N.E. US has current charts giving speed and direction like we get a tide chart at the bait store. I have been trying to find something on line without any luck. I was hopping someone there had something. You hate to spend a couple hours running out to deep drop and have the current ripping as apposed to knowing a time of day to head out.

You want to pay attention to where the gulf stream is then. NOAA releases this info with the marine forecast. If you use your tide info along with that you should be set. I know on my Garmin it has tide and current info as well.

Re: Current and tides Dry Torgugs

Guys Thank you very much. that tides for fishing site has great info We will have to get the gulf stream info when we get out there but at least now I have a good idea of the tides out there so at least we don't run out deep when there is a big swing between low and high tide.
