South Texas Freedivers report Oct 15 "Windows"
Windows, thats all one can hope for these days, with summer coming to an end the opportunities to get offshore are smaller and smaller..Last week I looked at the forecast several days and hoped that my judgement would be correct. I used rip, noaa, and bouyeweather in hopes of finding that window, and one of the last opportunities to dive offshore before we wrapped it up for the winter (or until keith says its time for wahoo)..The plan was to dive a wreck (secret) that comes up to about 60 feet..We got there and where greeted by a pack of hungry cobias, my uncle thought they where sharks ha ha ha ....My brother scored first and and unfortunetly my cousine missed, I was on the recieveing end and just waited for my brothers cobia to bring in her buddies. Bang daddy has new shoes and we scored the first daily double ....We put them in the boat and started to work the top of the wreck that was crawling with grovers and more cobia ...Viz was probabaly about 75 with the top part of the wreck fully visable and target galore ...I again waited patiently and put the new dive r's to the test scoring on the biggest cobia of the day, I thought I had a perfect shot but after about 2 minutes the line went slack and I have no idea of what happened ....We (armando jr, ian and myself), continued to work the grovers. My baby bro scored on a nice mangrove and I followed him up again with the mangroves brother that was tailing him (rememeber work smart not hard), we again put the fish in the boat and started the hunt again..This time my cousine made and nice and dive and was upset that he missed a very nice dog snapper with his new gacula hybrid...We where working the wreck and my brother came up from a dive like the exorcist vomiting in a hose like fashion (guess waves got to him)...He got in the boat and continued like a human chum machine, this earned him the name emily for the rest of the trip... Me and my cousine moved over to the bouye and as soon as i made my drop heard some comtion that messed with dive. I saw some very large mangrove but did not have a shot when i came up armando jr already a bull mahi going crazy at the end of his spear ...I put a second shot in and boated the fish, we took a quick break and went back to land some of the nice king that where swimming around ...We ended the day with 3 cobia 3 snapper 1 mahi 1 king and a mess of triggers caught hook and line ....

Cesar - do you have trouble competing on this wreck with scuba dive boats?

Nice shooting Cesar! Looks like you had a fun time. We went out last Saturday morning to the Clipper. Water was calm no wind, and very little current. Visibility was excellent. We shot several snappers including a nice 30" I shot at 125 ft.
I was hoping a "window" would open up this weekend, but the wind and waves are just too much. Maybe next weekend??? Regards, Robert |

Awesome guys. We are surely about to get blown off the gulf, unless you can find a ride on a big boat.
I keep hearing the wahoo are thick during the winter and I need a couple to brag about. |

You didn't miss the report. We stuck a bunch of YFT with the biggest above 250. I got asked to keep quiet about it until it gets published. It was badass
