Re: 10 New Ways to Use Drones
One of the functions of my job is search and rescue. I don't know much about drone technology, (except what my 17 yr. old son tells me), but it seems to me that high end drones could be of great use in our searches.
Our current search really got me thinking about this. We're searching for a missing elderly hiker in a very rugged river canyon. Last week, on a very hot day, one of our volunteers was actually shot way up in the canyon. He was hit in the hip, and the suspect is still at large. We had to send in multiple swat teams to evacuate him and the other searchers, and the event was rightfully deemed an "active shooter" situation. The area was checked by helicopter, which was risky not only because of the shooter, but because of the heat and altitude being dangerous to fly in. By the time the victim and other searchers were safely extricated from the area, two officers had to be flown to the hospital with heat related issues. As rugged and dangerous as this, (and many other search areas in my county) are, it seems to me that drones could fairly effectively cover a lot of area without risking the safety of our volunteers.
