Visiting outer banks

I'll be in the outer banks next weekend. Was looking to do a charter for Saturday. Conditions are predicted to be pretty good so why not. If anyone in the area wants to split a charter let me know. I'm FII level 2 certified and looking to do some deep wreck/blue water. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Re: Visiting outer banks

Jon, I'm from Jersey and I'll be down there from 3rd to 8th. I can't dive Saturday but can any other day till Thursday. Will bring my kayak with me. Would love to do a charter as well. I dive regularly (2-3 times a week) in NJ and can comfortably fish to 50ft, possibly deeper with good conditions.

Not too many options from shore if you are looking big games, otherwise there are some accessible wrecks from the beach that may hold some sheepheads, spades and a wondering barracuda or so. You can also use a sea kayak and explore the sound side but visibility is gonna be your biggest problem. If you want more so pelagic species or bigger game, then a charter is a must. JT barker (under pressure) and vicarious Spearfishing are two of the best out there and they will make best use of your buck and time.

Good luck.

Re: Visiting outer banks

Thanks for the info. The weather report is looking worse so Ill play it by ear. The surfing will probably be great if there is no diving!

This pretty much sums it up. Not a lot around inshore right now. My last dives I saw a rat cobia, small and scattered triggers, tiny spades, tiny sheepshead, some small flounder, small tog. I did see a huge Summer striper (15lbs or so which is big for a Summer one here) hiding behind some structure (and ALOT of 8-12" ones) but I wasn't sure about the regs so I didn't shoot it. Glad I didn't because I looked up the regs after and it would have required a permit due to it being a Summer Ocean striper. You can get enough for dinner now by shooting the somewhat larger fish (If this Hurricane doesn't ruin the conditions) and the diving is nice inshore (clear water) but theres been ALOT of pressure at the shore dive spots.

Best bet is JT or another good spearing charter or a private boat. AJ's are a sure bet. Rainbows too if you go off Hatteras. Mahi is possible. Wahoo should start picking up. AP's are around. Typical Bluewater diving if you get offshore. Hopefully before it gets too cold the inshore stuff will pick up.
