Stillwater Cove???

I've dove Stillwater at Pebble Beach GC a number of times, starting at the pier near the health club. I was cruising websites and came across a scuba site that said that due to the sensitive marine environment, "only 10 divers a day" are allowed in Stillwater, and "night diving is not allowed". WTF??? Is this something new, or just bad info?

One of the pictures down below the description in the link you posted shows the 10 diver limit on a sign from Pebble Beach Co. (along with a requirement that divers reserve access ahead of time). When I went a few weeks ago, that sign wasn't posted, and no one asked whether I was diving (despite the obvious dive gear in my car).

I know the company has been getting angsty about parking lately, but other than that and the 17 Mile Drive fee, I don't think there are any restrictions on diving these days.

Some of the other guys who dive Stillwater more frequently might have a better idea, though.

Re: Stillwater Cove???

Those sound like the requirements to dive Point Lobos State Park. In the MLPA, Whalers cove.

Indeed. I was just concerned that something had changed. Gonna try to get in Stillwater Thursday and/or Friday with my boys...

Re: Stillwater Cove???

I read that when I first started diving there, but have not seen it enforced. I dive there frequently, too.

Re: Stillwater Cove???

I live in Monterey and dive SWS very regularly. There has been days that I see dozens of divers in the water. The only issue there is with parking. Unload your gear at the pier then park in the coastal access lot. If you park in the coastal access parking lot you should have no issues. The $10 entrance fee can be avoided by making reservations at one of the restaurants at least 1 day ahead.

Re: Stillwater Cove???

Has anyone dove in up there latley? Hows the conditions been.

Seems like forever since we have calm waters up here.

Any updates on still water would be great. Thanks

This weekend is hook and line RCG opener. SWS will be a zoo.

I would recommend diving somewhere else...

This pic was from two weekends ago...my fish, pic with visiting Canadian freediver. She speared her first Ling that day, but the red made for a better pic.

Sincerely,

Jim
