looking for info about living near Largo/ St. Pete

I am about to move to the Largo area for work and am investigating for the move. I would like to live in St. Pete possibly but would like to know which areas to stay away from. I will rent an apartment first then as I get to know the area better look for a more long term situation.
The only experiences I have with St. Pete now is going to about 3 Rays games over the past 5 years and from what I saw, I don't want to be anywhere close to Tropicana Field.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Gary

I just retired from the St Petersburg Police Dept. If you really want to know where to live, send me a PM. I wouldn't feel right posting what I'll tell ya!

St. Pete (commonly called "the burg" by locals) is a pretty rough hood. definitely keep an eye on the ones on the lil rascals, they are real hood!

but for real, my family lives off of 38th ave. and it is a really nice area. i don't know the exact name of the area, but it is real clean.

I live in Largo and work for the city of St Pete. Hit me up with a PM of where you are going to be working and I will tell you the best place to stay with commute and all that BS. I was born in St. Anthonys in Downtown St Pete and have been in this direct area all my life. Hit me up and I will tell you all I know!

Generally in St Pete, north is better than south, unless close to the water. Downtown (by the Trop) is not good either, unless on the water or old NE. Like everytown USA, there are areas less desireable than others.

Pinellas county now has well over a million people and is the most congested in the state, due to being on a peninsula... so you don't want to have to drive across it N-S or E-W if you don't have to.

Lots of good diving, and a little closer to the rest of FL diving than Jax.

Chad

Downtown St Pete is becoming one of the most desirable downtowns in Florida. A beautiful waterfront area, with many events, and a fair number of restaurants, museums, etc. Ff you are looking for condo living, if thats what you are into...Downtown St Pete has a lot to offer, of course, the closer to Straub Park, the more desirable.

Thumbs up Re: looking for info about living near Largo/ St. Pete

Check out Inlet bay apartments. They are nice and on the North side of St. Pete Right near largo. (12001 dr. mlk st N. st. pete 33716 mapquest it.) No trouble no kids well maintained and full size washer/dryer in unit. I lived there for three years and wish I never left. Everything you could ever want is within five minutes of there too. They also have boat parking

if you see a lot of 15 year old cars with glossy neon paintjobs and 30" rims then you are in a bad neighborhood.
