Spearfishg Miami May 2019. Advice?

What’s up guys (and gals)

I’m trying to plan my first ever trip to the east coast.
Main mission : Spearfish. Big fish
I’m Looking at Miami , due to having a friend there I might be able to stay for cheap. - but considering spending a few days in other areas.
I Would be there May 24th - beginning of June.
I’ve never been to the east coast, much less dive it .

Any advice, recommendations for charters ?
I’d be going solo , I’ve been looking for boats/charters I can join in on.
I know there are a million charters online ,but it seems all boats charter out the whole boat, which leaves me to find other divers to help split the cost. I’ll be traveling solo and don’t know anybody there to split with- hoping to find boats I can join in on.
I’d love to shore dive too, but rather not go solo in a place I’ve never been.
Or even anybody who wants to do some dives with a boat. Id gladly cover cost to fuel up the boat!

I’m interested in BW & reef

Any advice/tips/recommendations for this SoCal boy?

Thanks!

PM when you're close to come. We'll take you out for a few beers and your share of gas and ice.

May is a good time as hogs and groupers will be open. I hope you get some good weather.

I'm usually diving during the weekdays, so you're welcome to join me. May is great for reef fishing. Blue water is better during winter time.

I used to live there. Miami is pretty decimated in terms of there being fish to spear. But you can find stuff shallow on the grass flats and patch reefs. If you go onto the main reef 30 to 100 ft you will see it's mostly barren.

If you really want fish and it's not just for the diving,
I would try to dive in west palm or Jupiter, or if you can get down to islamorada and further south in the keys.

I really appreciate the info. I’ll have a rental car, so may make my way down to Islamorada or Keys for a couple days if I can find some dive charters/people to dive with down there.

Appreciate the info. Thanks

Plenty of places you can beach dive in South Florida. It would be best to find a day in your vacation where the water is calm and the visibility is good enough for a productive spearfishing trip. It is more difficult to catch big fish from the shore in South Florida than it is in California where I found it easy to catch big fish from the shore.

We do get decent fish every weekend. It must have recovered since you used to dive here...

What's up man! I normally go with friends on their boats, but worse case scenario I have a dive float (Beauchat Guardian) I take with me on shore dives. I got decent spots. Text me if you're down (305-224-2940 Orlando)
