I personally wouldn't want to venture to the islands this weekend for fun... Here's a forecast for the western channel (which right now is determining conditions between SB and the islands)

Hey Brent,
What site is that? Is it a pay site? I use a bunch of forcast sites but I dont think I've seen that one before.

Hey Guys, Went out yesterday along the coast on my buddy's boat and even in the outer kelp beds along the mesa at around 50' the viz was non existent. I jumped in with my spear gun and couldn't even see my spear tip on a 20" gun. epically horrible conditions out there right meow

Its Windalert.com Started out as a kiteboarding site, but it has gotten steadily more and more useful for boating. The new forecasting view is pretty good, too, but like any forecast, its gotten me into trouble a couple times when I've put too much faith in it alone.

I wish we had more granular information for localized conditions (like conditions inside the Santa Cruz and San Miguel passages and off Carrington and Pedro points).

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

The past couple of days have been very interesting out there on the channel to say the least. Brent we get "morning reports" every morning from the Park Service since we use their Park radios and we get weather reports from the outer islands everyday. Hail us on Ch 16 or 18, Islander or Island Adventure and we can let you know what they have up there or call the Park Service in Ventura and ask for dispatch and maybe they can give you the info, if we can't connect.

Thanks Brent. I hadn't seen that site before. Their free iPhone app isn't as good but the normal website has a lot of info. Thats a nice offer Capt. Anthony. Can never have enough info esp. from those that are on the water all the time.

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

Windfinder is nice because they have the GFS, WRAMS and NAM models which they average to give the general graph. You can go look at each and see if they all agreee or are different to see how accurate the forcast should be. It is a nice tool but even with three different models they can't figure out whats actually going to happen in more than a couple days.

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

To my SB blokes.. Now that the wedding is done and the wife and I are in our house together and fairly settled down, I MAY have time to dive again. I have a thousand house projects to do but no longer have a deadline (wedding) hanging over me.. All that said, if anyone wants a boat partner, well, you all have my #. Ed

Paddled leads to lighthouse on my new 12'6". Got in the water at t-steps, vis anywhere between 4-5 (mostly) and a few 12+ (pockets). Fair amount of deen's, a pack of dolphins, but nothin' else worth shootin! Looks like more surf on the way this weekend.

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

Conditions near Gaviota were prtetty poor today but totally huntable. Surge surf, cold water, and 2-12' vis. Lots of jellies and sea squirts. I sclored a pus, a bug and 9 perch. Real fun if not too clear. Surf piced up after a couple of hours and the vis closed out

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

So I blew my eardrum out the first day of lobster season. I've been waiting long enough and I assume(with no basis) that it has healed by now and I'm ready to dive again this weekend. If anyone is looking for a boat ho(gas money, food, brewsky) or dive partner for Saturday or Sunday send me a PM. Anyone going to the island this weekend?
