Re: Ermesub Double Roller in mid handle?
Jack Prodanovich and Wally Potts developed most of the equipment that underpins the foundations of our sport, particularly for fish that were not to be taken without some serious effort and courage on the part of the spearfishermen, so safety of equipment was paramount as the odds were not necessarily in the latter's favour.
These pioneers from the very beginning built safety devices into their early spearguns, not "flick on and off" devices, but safety measures that had to be deliberately set by the operator. Prodanovich knew the exasperation of leaving a safety on and pulling the trigger only to feel the trigger was immovable, so he set about making one that operated through the trigger itself. I think his "active safety" is one of the great designs in speargun technology, but has not been recognized as such as many seeing it did not understand what it was. Anyone who owns a GLOCK pistol will recognize the principle of a moving element embedded in the trigger. http://gunbelts.com/blog/how-does-glock-safety-work/ |

Re: Ermesub Double Roller in mid handle?
Another type of safety used in firearms is the grip safety where grasping the grip handle depresses a safety built into the rear upper section of the grip.
http://gunbelts.com/blog/grip-safeties/ These have been tried in spearguns, notably the IN DEPTH INC. grip handles which are styled like an automatic M1911 pistol, but to cock the mechanism you have to have your hand on the grip and that includes when pushing the spear tail into the sear box! Needless to say this idea did not catch on! |
