Early Opening Slip way in Miami
I intend crossing to Bimini and would like to get an early morning start.
I will be towing a 25ft boat down from WPB. Is there a ramp either in Biscayne or vicinity that is open from sunrise or slightly earlier (say 6.00 am) Were do the early birds launch? I checked the Crandon Park Marina website and they evidently only open at 8.00am :>( Thanks, Mike. |

Re: Early Opening Slip way in Miami
I know they added the pay by machines at the Bear Cut Marina that's in Key Biscayne. I never noticed if they had a gate to keep people out. I will ask a teacher friend that works at the school across the street to check for us. Did you try calling the little store they have next to the gas pumps?

Re: Early Opening Slip way in Miami
Thanks for responding bulls eye.
Some Q&A: 1. I assume that the Bear Cut Marina is the same place as the Crandon Marina? I tried googling Bear Cut Marina and somehow landed up on Crandon marina Website. If it is two different Marinas, then please ask your Teacher friend to obtain a phone number or opening details. That would be helpful. In the meantime I will try googling again. 2. The phone answering service for Crandon says they are open year round sunrise to sunset. Office hours are 8.00am to 5pm. I will phone tomorrow and obtain more details. ie such as the pay by machines you mentioned. 3. I have not used the Imemsa much, but so far so good. I took out some SB members from Boston looking for a ride, about a month ago. They each shot a nice fish (teenage King and a good size Dog Snapper) so they were content. 4. I will report back to Spearboard on the craft after Easter as we will be using the Imemsa non stop in the Bahamas for two weeks from around 20th March onwards. Thanks, Mike. |

Re: Early Opening Slip way in Miami
Bulls eye,
I phoned today during office hours. The Crandon slip is open 24 hours with a pay booth system. So, for the moment, that will be the place to launch. Once we are under the Bear Cut Bridge, I assume it is a straight shot to Bimini. AndrewK, i will check out the haulover slip as well. Thanks for the tip. Mike. |
