Spearing this weekend

I am joining a friend of mine with a cabin in Galvaston for the weekend and they are primarily line fishers.

He wants to try spearfishing and I am not familier with the area. Can anyone suggest any rigs or wrecks in the area that are good for freediving/spearing?

Is anyone going out in the area, maybe we could all hook up.

thanks.

Trevor

Re: Spearing this weekend

it might still be a bit hairy out there on Saturday, but sunday could be nice if the winds lay down. If all your resources fail head down the beach access road to Surfside and spear off the jetties.

Re: Spearing this weekend

Its the bad trips that make you appreciate the good ones. I drove down thursday night thinking I would get an extra day of fishing in. We hung out the first night and learned that according to his wife, this was a family vacation not a fishing trip. I did not even get to go out on the boat until Sunday morning, and the waves were almost too large to go out. We only made it out to the first rig, and I could not even see to the end of my gun. We tried to line fish but only caught a small shark and some trash fish. The good news is my friend is fired up about spearfishing and is getting a new motor and a kicker motor so we can start going further out into the blue water.
