Calling KW Tony

I picked up a Pelaj pipe gun -brand new - really, really cheap. Load the first band, all is well. Load the second band, still good. Load the the 3rd band, damn thing fires. Safety was on.

Immediately stop using the gun and get online. Now I see that the company tanked and there is significant bitching about this exact problem. On another board I saw discussions about installing different trigger mechanisms. KWTony - which I assume is the same KWTony here - mentioned that there were clearance problems with some of the recommended trigger replacements and then the thread ended.

Can he or anyone here tell me how to salvage my investment (OK, not really an investment, as bar tabs for 2 often exceed what I paid for this)?

Re: Calling KW Tony

The "Pelaj" was a Rob Allen clone that went wrong, maybe you could put a "Vecta 2" handle on it and throw away the original handle.

Re: Calling KW Tony

On the other board, the discussion included replacement rob allen triggers and that was when KW Tony chimed in about clearance and then disappeared

That handle price is more than I paid for the gun. LOL

Re: Calling KW Tony

Currently the gun is worth what you paid for it, Rob Allen changed their trigger mechanism, but Pelaj did not.

Re: Calling KW Tony

First don't use 3 bands on a pipe gun they just don't handle it well . If it's a ra clone maybe one of the the reverse triggers that are made for ra will work

Normally I would never use more than two bands but it had 3 and I wanted to see what it was capable of. As I read about the problem, many, many people had problems with it firing off with two bands. I just don't trust it. My spear partner is often my 15 year old daughter. I would hate for her to get a ahead of herself with excitement, swim in front of me and the thing just go off on its own.

Re: Calling KW Tony

I'd replace the muzzle with a shovel head and use it as gardening tool. Would double as a conservation starter.

Buy a new gun. You will never have confidence in that piece of junk.

Re: Calling KW Tony

A speargun is a pretty dangerous thing to carry around loaded no matter what gun it is ... now getting a speargun that is known to be of very poor quality ... I would pay money to dig it in a safe place where nobody can find it. Why would you even want to risk this ??? Especially with your precious kid involved in the picture. Just get a Pathos with a D'Angelo 1 handle and this would set you back about $100 to $135 ... depending on the pipe length. This will out shoot any pipe gun out there if setup correctly. You will have the piece of mind ... and your dive buddies will thank you for it.

Re: Calling KW Tony

I can't recall where I got this from, but it was in my "archives", hope whoever initially posted it will be OK.
Pelaj with a Cressi handle:

I don't know if the handle was shimmed or how well it lines with with the rail but if the spear, barrel, muzzle and rubbers are OK, then I would, personally, hang onto it. Sooner or later, a cheapo, good handle should come your way.
Maybe if you take of the handle and take some measurements someone can help determine what handle would line up well? Inside diameter and the height of the rail should be the most important, I reckon.

As a side note; recently I was gifted a tiny Omer Cayman salvaged from the ocean floor by a friend. I ended up making a nice 90cm gun for a female friend and only the original handle survived. The most expensive part is now the shaft;-).
