1-5-10 dive -los angeles
Dove a local structure in the LA area. The viz was great about 15-20ft. Tide was high and waves were small. Expected to see a lot of Flattys, but did not even see a single one. This spot usually always produces for me. Searched from first entering the water to about 35-40 ft for 2 hrs. Did see alot of sandbass, calicos and soem big sheeps. Managed to grab one decent sized sandbass at 16 1/2inches. Overall it was a good dive and I was just stoked to be spearing cuz its been about 3 months.
Anyone get any flattys today? Any good sandbass recipes besides batter and fried? Thanks |

Thanks for the report. I hope to get out later this week. My personal favorite recipe for sand bass is to marinate for ten hours, then throw it in the garbage.

I like that recipe, except I usually skip the marinade step.

I'm not quite sure what the others are talking about. But I think sandbass are great eating! I marinade them in butter, garlic, salt, pepper and lemon and then throw 'em on the grill. I usually make tacos with them, but when I eat them whole I put some salsa on top.

WTF and you guys were criticizing me for wanting to donate extra fish to the homeless
Usually, I bake the fish. You can panfry them in Bisquik for something a little different. Try Zach's recipe though. |

my sources say the flatties are out in the deeper water currently ...60 to 80'...look for birds and bait action....may be due to the bait moving out into the cooler water...

Just joking around since I'm not that big a fan of sand bass. Stopped shooting them last April.

What about the elusive 7 pound fish that stays juuuuust out of range? I'm with you on not pulling the trigger, but my exception is anything over 16"

Re: 1-5-10 dive -los angeles
Well haven't seen any sand bass over 5lbs since I quite that fish, but I'd probably make an exception for a sandy if it looked like a monster, near or over the 10lb range.

False. I'm just a picky guy and a poor chef.
