Line X on an outboard bracket?
Anybody ever tried this? I did a few quick searches online, but not much luck. I'm looking for an alternative to awlgrip. I can't stand when brackets begin to chip away that are covered in awlgrip. Line X seems like it holds up quite well, for boat hulls at least. Bracket is bare aluminum now. Looking for some other options out there, open to all suggestions.
Thanks |

Re: Line X on an outboard bracket?
Any coating is going to chip and degrade to some degree in an ocean environment. I think Line X type products would work but how long? The real problem is water getting under it. Powder coating would be another good option but then you run into problems when something dings it. You also have to consider electrolysis from the motor as well.
The bracket I have is all anodized. It started life as a shiny silver and has over years turned to a dull silver/gunmetal appearance. If you are willing to go to a flat Line X type finish, I would consider having your bracket bead blasted or hard anodized. It may not look like new forever, but it would look consistently the same.

Look into line-x xs-650. More $$ but supposed to be really tough stuff.

Re: Line X on an outboard bracket?
i did the hull on my alum boat in one section to try it out and after a year its held up with no prep i just slapped it on ,now i,m ready to do the hole hull , then onto my other boat to do the deck, gang way etc ,i think its going to be a cheaper way to go in the long run

Re: Line X on an outboard bracket?
My bracket on my Grady was done with Rhino liner and has held up really well.
