Origin of Name Scotchman's Cove?

There seems to be a wealth of knowledge on these forums on the history of diving and spearfishing, so I thought I might try to see if anybody here can help me with a question I have been trying to find an answer to for years.

Scotchman's Cove has been a well known dive site here in southern California for longer then I have been alive. Does anybody know the origin of it's name? Who was the "Scotchman?" I imagine he was an old time spear-fisherman, but I have never been able to find any information about him.
