Man, I went to the wrong school. High school spearfishing team? How cool would that be? Jerry Ault would be proud.
Anyway, as I posted in the speedo section, Im in and have a sweet pad on Little Torch if some the homies plan on coming down.

This tournament is going to kick butt. Scott is doing a hell of a job putting this thing together, should be a great turnout.

I wonder what Sheri is going to do with that money.

Re: $25,000 Spearfishing Tournament
Sorry for the delay this Tournament is taking over my life, anyway the new world record holder at the end of the day 51lbs on the nose or greater will take home $25,000. Sorry about the website but its seems like problem after problem with the website design guy, should be up shortly.

Sheri is more than capable of taking a 51+ carbo, but fish that size aren't sitting next to every purple sea fan in the keys......especially in the Summer.

My first point is that the carbos in Broward and Dade counties are very spooky due to the heavy fishing pressure (which is focused on a half mile swath of diveable reef that runs up and down the coast) more so than I understand in the Keys and the Marquesas. My second point is that carbos in general (and particularly in Broward and Dade counties) are much more easily approached by freedivers than scuba divers because of the equipment noise. Shooting a carbo these days in Broward and Miami-Dade is an accomplishment in and of itself. Shooting a big carbo on scuba in those conditions is a bigger accomplishment than freediving one IMO. How many SCUBA-SHOT carbos do we seen on Spearboard come out of Broward or Dade counties? How many big ones? I can't remember any other than Sheri's and those posted by Mcbas. If you can shoot a fish like that on scuba under those conditions, you can more easily shoot one a few pounds bigger freediving in the Keys IMO. Sheri's fish was shot in August, so time of year shouldn't be a factor in the comparision. Last edited by kitefisherman; 06-29-2005 at 07:15 AM. |

Re: $25,000 Spearfishing Tournament
I don't know how long the record has been standing at 51 lbs. but there is someone putting up 25 Gs thinking it will hold. Anyway, I hope Dave drops her on a school of them over 100lbs. and she takes home the dough, that will teach those boys!
